Mouth watering. All of our friends keep telling us to go there and how great their food is. Guess what I took my wife and kids there and they were right this place is awesome!!! Our whole family could have used an intervention, we could not stop pigging out. The kids got cheeseburger sliders and wings. They cleared their plates. I got a rare pit beef, which I have to say was the best I’ve had. My wife got the pork bbq and she did not what to share even a bite, she loved it. We also got the ribs to split, they were so ridiculously good that we ordered them the next night for dinner. This is definitely Bel Airs new hot spot.
Not for me. I gave the Bird’s Nest a try, but was not pleased. We ordered 2lb of pulled pork, a rack of ribs fries and onion rings, and the bill was almost $50. They automatically put sauce in the barbecue, which masks the flavor of the meat with a sweet flavor. There is no option to get the meat plain and add your own. Ribs are similarly not offered naked for those who don’t like sauce on their ribs. I applaud the owner for his gumption and trying something new, but as a fan of Memphis-style barbecue with no sauce options, the overall taste was not what we were looking for.
Unimpressive…to say the least. I finally visited the Bird’s Nest for the first time after wanting to try them for months. I know that locally owned BBQ places can be hit or miss, and for my family, the Bird’s Nest is a tremendous miss. My wife tried the Pulled Pork Sandwich and did not enjoy it at all. My son and I split a rack of ribs, which if you compared what we received to the picture on their website (birdsnestbbq.com) they weren’t even close. When pulling on a rib bone, the meat just fell right off, leaving you with a bare bone. This is a sure sign of a poor rib, as the meat should cling to the bone at least long enough to get it to your mouth. The ribs had a crock-pot preparation like taste to them, though it’s possible they were made, frozen, defrosted and heated in a microwave to get to the quality they were. On top of that, there was absolutely no rub on the ribs, and the sauce was added to the ribs after being fully cooked, probably put on by a squeeze bottle or a ladle. On top of it all, the full rack we received was maybe 1/2 the meat you’d receive if you ordered from Famous Dave’s. $16 for those ribs was a true ripoff. The hush puppies were decent though nothing to write home about. The one good thing was the amazing number of fries you receive when you add them to a rib meal for $1, and the fresh cut fries were delicious. The BBQ sauce was also pretty good, but nothing special. I believe the Ravyn Sauce would have some real potential. I may visit again, but it will only to get an order of fries. I do not recommend the ribs in any way.
Still very new it seems and getting on their feet. got the pulled pork sandwich, they forgot the lettuce I ordered on it but the pulled pork was delicious as well as the potato roll. The only complaint I have were the fresh cut fries were completely soggy and the packaging was poorly thought out.
01/2013. Ate there for a late lunch. It is a cute little place, very clean. Their theme is cute for Maryland – Orange (Orioles) and Purple (Ravens.) The owner is a very nice gentleman. They offer a nice menu of BBQ type things i.e. pit beef, turkey, ham, brisket, wings, pulled pork, hand cut fries etc. We had the pit beef (medium) and it was really a good! Definitely worth a visit and def. something different for the city of Bel Air. Say NO to more burgers and pizza … Bel Air has enough of those!
First Time There. Everything is made to order, you can add as many things you want to your sandwich for no extra charge. I tried the beef brisket and it was great. My wife had the Baltimore Club with ham, turkey, bacon, and Swiss cheese and loved it.
