Always fantastic & fresh, friendly people and clean! Every visitor I have they have been to BBD and have enjoyed eating outside looking at the beautiful sunflowers (when in season of course) .. Their scrapple is the best I’ve ever had, even have mailed this over night; frozen first, to friends who can not find any better. So close to home, drive past it everyday 🙂 Day or evening.. wonderful place for the family or enjoying friends!
And the food is good!. We took my Grandmother here for lunch from a not too distant nursing home. Great little outing. The drive was through bucolic farmlands in autumn array. There was one handicapped space which we were fortunate to claim, and easy wheelchair access throughout. The back room’s ambiance (read ‘noise level’) was all country charm and allowed for conversation with Grandmom even though her hearing is quite impaired. The staff and guest list were eclectic, but everyone was friendly and earnest, down to the gentleman asking us to donate to a turkey shoot to raise money for needy, local families. Even the name of the restaurant speaks to the history of this particular place, and the continuity of its heritage. So, this place gets thumbs up. Weird way to judge a restaurant? Perhaps, but these are significant considerations when you realize that the other alternatives in this area were located in malls, strip malls, or out parcels of strip malls in descending orders of repulsiveness. This quirky little overgrown roadside ice cream stand offers the perfect antidote to the crass, depressingly placeless, mega-chain, fast food options on offer only a few miles away. I’ve not even mentioned the food yet because while it was good fare and reasonably-priced, the real differentiator in this market seems to the place’s authenticity. We would have been happy to eat an apple with a glass of warm, fresh cow’s milk here as opposed to a gourmet meal back in suburbiana, even if they offered to super size the latter for just $1 more. But (as if the lily needed any gilding) it turns out the soups and quiches at Brooms Bloom are tasty fare, and the ice cream is truly something special.
The service is great – very friendly employees. The cream of crab soup was to die for! So creamy with nice big chunks of real crab meat. I also got a half a chicken salad sandwich – it was so-so. But the ice cream sealed the deal. So creamy, you can tell it’s homemade, not overly sweet, just perfect. I got the caramel cashew, but that didn’t stop me from sneaking a bite of my daughter’a chocolate 🙂 I will definitely be going back. Who knew that there was such a little gem of an eatery only 10 mins from home!
Grape Ice Cream…. ’nuff said.
Excellent ice cream. Hard to find a better place… Americana at it’s finest.
I love going to this place. It’s cozy, the people who work there are nice, you get a wide selection of neat flavors to choose from, on Sundays they have live music in the summer, you can buy local product AND if you come at the right time you can watch the sun set across the field and into the trees. Perfect!!
Best Ice Cream. This was our 3rd visit and its always a treat. The ice cream is rich and creamy and flavors are amazing. I had the Cinnamon, Honey and Vanilla. Last time I had the Blueberry Muffin. Support local farmers.. eat at Brooms !!!!
