If you’re going to use a big cavernous room beside your pub as a ‘restaurant,’ commit to the concept. Have people available to greet a customer right away on a Saturday afternoon. The friendly waitress is great, once she gets around to showing up and noticing you. Teach her to bring the customer a menu and a ‘set-up’ as soon as they walk in. No flowers, candles or assorted dusty bottles of sauce on the table? Fine; that’s cleaner. Saving on washing bills by skipping the table cloth and seat cushions? -also cleaner, even if it gives the room a ‘cold’ feeling. But have your server remember customers do have feelings. Show a little more interest in them, than in folding napkins and polishing glasses and silverware when there are no other customers around to need those things. Chat a lone customer up a little. If someone comes in with an infant or a special needs person, don’t wait around to have them tell you what’s needed – seem interested and helpful. Remind the chef that if a server fails to specify what, if any meat is wanted on top of their house specialty, he should have her check back with the person paying to consume it, instead of deciding for the customer. Too be fair, Minihane’s prices were great yesterday. And the heavy food I ordered wasn’t all that bad, given that it’s pub-grub and supposed to be Irish. I like Guinness and it’s appropriate as an ingredient, here! The two dishes I ordered seemed like original concepts, and would be very warming on a cold day or night. Homemade chips were a nice surprise.
Excellent presentation and flavor!. I have been to Minihane’s 5 or 6 times since it has opened. I have always been pleased. The Mother’s Day and Father’s day special menu’s were superb with a choice of 2 in each category of appetizer, entree and dessert. A glass of wine was included in the Mother’s Day meal and a glass of beer with the Father’s day special at a cost of $30 fixed. The Irish specialties are also good with my favorites of Shepard’s Pie, Fish chowder (similar to a rich thick potato soup with white fish) and a beef dish (can’t remember the name). The atmosphere is pleasant with Irish music generally being played in the background. At first I thought the prices were slightly pricey but when I compared the quality of a sandwich at $9 to going to fast food for the same cost, there is no comparison to the Minihane’s sandwich for quality.
Disappointing. We figured we would try out the new pub. I wish we had looked at the menu ahead of time because we definitely would have passed. Very limited menu, especially if you don’t eat seafood or mushrooms. Decided to go with a sandwich ($9 for a slice of cheese and some meat). Asked for the pub roll, which they were out of. Neither of us care for rye or wheat, so we opted to finish our beers and leave. 10 minutes later, the waitress returned to say they did have pub rolls so we ordered our sandwiches. Why didn’t the waitress know already that they had rolls in stock? Not worth a second look at all.
