I visited family in September and as always, I am looking to get steamed crabs during my visit. I grew up in Baltimore and left at 18 but always get crabs when I return. This trip was no exception. We were going to entertain about 10-15 people so I explored the idea to steam my own, as this would normally be the least expensive route to take. However, once I did some shopping around, I quickly discovered, this was not the case. I was told by several that a bushel of live would cost around $140-160 a bushel for medium males. I also asked a few places for steamed and they were $225 or more for a steamed bushel. I figured I would just stop into Crabland and see what they had to offer in the way of steamed crabs.To my surprise and I made them clarify a couple of times prior to me purchasing, they were the same price for a bushel of steamed, medium males. They went as far as to show me what I was getting, they also said that the large crabs were running light and that I would be better off getting the mediums instead. Contradicting or learning a lesson from the previous post…whatever, it worked to my favor.I picked up the crabs, along with 18 ears of corn, which was not Iowa sweet corn, but good nonetheless at the time specified with no waiting. They were bagging them as I walked in the door, fresh from the steamer.I got them home and we began to dig in. Our guests were very surprised and complimentary as if I had actually done a great job picking them out. When I told them where I got them from, they said, wow, I will go there from now on. Come to find out, my niece goes there quite often and has been satisfied each and every time.The staff were very friendly and greeted me with a smile, from the moment I first walked in to the time I left with my purchase. Thank you Crabland, I will not look anywhere else when I return.By the way, 4-stars because of the corn. I am spoiled by Iowa sweet corn. Thanks again, see you during my next visit.
