Previously frozen shrimp, bland food, iffy service. Salsa and chips tasted like I could get them at Giant. I ordered shrimp fajitas and while there were numerous shrimp (the only plus), they were bland and swimming in oil. The shrimp themselves were overcooked and tasted as if they came from a pack of ‘previously cooked, tail-on’ frozen shrimp and then just heated up. To add insult to injury, I also think they were freezer burned – they had that super white frayed look to them (either that or they were thawed by being put in water?) Regardless, I waited quite a long time for my check with the owner walking right by me and ignoring me. While the server seemed nice enough, she wasn’t very attentive.I would not go back.
Average experience if your lucky. I only go back here, off and on, because of the affordable food. Based on my recent visit I am not sure I have a reason to return. We went for dinner, the bar area was full. There were a few others eating in the dinning room. After several minutes the usual waitress – is she the only one what works here? – seated us. It would have been nice if she asked if we had a preference. She sat us at a table where the floor area was covered with a lot of debris, mostly paper of some kind. We were promptly served chips and salsa plus the drinks we ordered. We ordered stuffed jalapeno’s as an appetizer. Our main course was the Cheese Sampler and Chicken Fajita. The stuffed jalapeno’s were served cold in the middle. We asked for a re-order. That took so long that it came half way into our meal. They were over cooked, oily, and apparently if you bite one to find out it is not properly cooked then that one is not replaced.Other than one of our sides not being served, the rest of the meal was fine. I believe though that fajita’s are supposed to have some green and red pepper in it. Maybe there was some, but all we could find was a large amount of onions. I asked for some hot sauce. I was given a beer bottle full of warm hot sauce. The spout on top was clogged with old dried up sauce.
Horrible Service. La Mexicana has decent Mexican food but the service is unreal. Several times it hasn’t been up to par but it has gotten really bad. We were the first table seated on a Sunday (6 of us) and it took over 20 minutes for the server to bring out chips and salsa after being asked (there were no other restaurant customers–we were the only table). We ordered and she brought out 1 dish after 10 minutes (fajitas) which was wrong so she went back and took off the shrimp that wasn’t ordered and brought it back out. Thank goodness, the person eating it wasnt allergic to shellfish. We then had to wait 35 minutes for the rest of our entrees (5) by which time the original entree was cold. The food was just okay but my fajita salad had cold chicken — not even warm. The manager/owner came by and hemmed and hawed and said something about the server not putting in our order (2 tables of 2 each came in about 20-25 minutes after the first entree was delivered) and finally gave a lame apology and at the end sent us some pieces of flan. The restaurant was virtually empty so if it was a new server, I don’t understand why the manager/owner wasn’t keeping a watchful eye.I am so sorry this restaurant has gone down-hill — I think they are concentrating more on their alcohol/bar sales and the food and restaurant service are now an afterthought — pity since their food was really, really good about 1-1/2 years ago and their prices were inexpensive. Hopefully they will start concentrating on their restaurant and bringing their quality back as their restaurant does have a lot of square footage they have to pay for.
