Always excellent. We eat here every time we come to Frederick to hear the BSO and the food is always excellent, even on the busiest night. If you read a review that really disses Cacique, that reviewer tried it once on the worst night ever and probably impossible to please no matter where he goes. So of the many times we’ve eaten at Cacique, the service has always been quick and friendly, the food superlative, and well worth the trip we make from Gettysburg. Try it, you’ll like it!
Great salsa. Seafood enchiladas are amazing as are the veggie fajitas. Highly recommend.
Good mix of Spanish and Mexican foods. There are several Mexican restaurants in the area, but I like Cacique the best (along with their second location, Mexicali Cantina). My most recent visit was with my husband and two friends on Feb 24th 2012. Their salsa is great and chips fresh and crunchy. I ordered the chorizo con queso as an appetizer. I had expected it to be a chili con queso but with the chorizo. Still, it was very good and served with toast.I typically order the roasted chicken, which is served with sliced onions, peppers and tomatoes in a Spanish sauce (along with black beans and rice) or the roast duck, both very good. This particular evening, I tried the shrimp tacos, which was one of the specials of the evening. There were three on the plate. It was quite filling but I wish the shrimp were larger. Overall the flavors were good and my dinner filled me up (came with yellow Spanish rice and salsa). Tony tried the swordfish, first time ever, and he really liked it. He’s really not a fish eater but he was quite satisfied and plans to buy some for us to cook at home. One friend ordered the broiled salmon with vegetables and the other the trio special: scallops, steak, and shrimp. We were all happy with our meals. Everytime we go to Cacique, it’s always filled. The place can be a little noisy but it didn’t bother us.Service is always good and we never have to wait long for our meals. In the summertime, if you get lucky, you can sit outdoors.
Oh so tasty!. Great food! Awesome chips and salsa. Guacamole has huge chunks of avocado! Love the fajitas! Haven’t had anything here we didn’t like. Prices are extremely reasonable for downtown Frederick food. Huge portions… Always leftovers for lunch the next day!
Nothing special. Not sure why my friends like this place over some other Mexican places in town. The food is more expensive and just so so. Better off going to Mex. Cantina.
Asked for the check before our entrees even arrived…. I like to wait a little while, after my experience, before I poorly rate a restaurant, but this can’t wait. This restaurant was truly bad. Should have simply walked out after waiting to speak to anyone–a hostess, someone–for 5-10 minutes when we walked into the restaurant. Look I know you get busy on a Friday night, but at least make sure there is someone there to greet guest who have to wait. It didn’t get any better after we were seated. We waited for our server for 15 mins. One of the busboys graciously brought us water and some of their salsa (thin, salty tomato soup) and cold chips. After looking around at some other disgruntled guests, i told my wife that I would probably be a good idea to order our drinks, entrees, etc, as soon as the server arrives. I am all for a leisurely dinner, in fact I love taking my time, but I also don’t like to be made to feel like I am completely being ignored. We went ahead and ordered in one-fell-swoop. Again, taking a cue from everyone else around us, we went ahead and flagged our server down and told him to just bring our check with our entrees. So, about 1 hour and 20 mins into our seating, we received our food and check. We promptly picked at the soggy enchiladas and rubbery cheese and then left after signing the check–which I sent back with the waiter as soon as he placed our entrees on the table. Ugh…this place was simply pathetic. I expect more from a business that has such a prime location on market street. I suppose it is the location that allows them to skate by with shoddy service and sub-par Mexican food. How in the heck can you mess up a tortilla with cheese meat and vegetables?!? Gracious. One highlight was the margarita my wife had. It was tasty without being overly sweet…still not enough to numb ourselves during that pathetic experience. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Delicious chili rellenos and tresleches
