Hidden Treasure in Frederick. We were dirivng up from Bethesda, and were stopping for an evening piano recital at Hood College. We almost missed this restaurant, since you first come to their parking lot, which is at an angle, down a hill at the side of the restaurant. We also discovered a back way out of the parking lot, which was helpful, since E. Patrick Street is a busy one-way street. It looked interesting, so we went around the block. I’m glad we did. The decor looks as though it should be much more expensive than it is, very much old-school emphasis.. We got there about 1:15 and the restaurant was not busy, so we were seated immediatelyWe each opted for the homemade cream of mushroom soup. My wife had the cobb salad and I ordered the German lunch, a selection of bratwurst, knockwurst, red cabbage, spiced apples, and a potato croquette. We were very pleased with our selections, since they were obviously prepared with care. We also each received three kinds of breads/muffins, very tasty. Our water and iced tea glasses were kept filled. The staff was very friendly and efficient and we felt well-taken care of. Our server, Jimmy, checked back with us several times to ensure that everyting was all right. They depend pretty much on local business and word-of-mouth, but we would certainly recommend the restaurant to those who are passing through Frederick.. We enjoyed our lunch very much and will certainly consider a return visit when we are in the area..

One of the worst. We Went to Gladchucks for my birthday as we had been there before and really enjoyed it. This time it was not so enjoyable We had reservations because usually you need reservations on a friday. It wasn’t necessary last night as there weren’t many people in the restaurant. We were seated and it took a while for a waitress to ask us about our drinks. It then took over an hour to proceed from our appetizers to our meal. The stuffed mushrooms were sloppy and not very filled. The stuffed haddock was dry and messy and the German dinner was not as ordered. The lemon pepper chicken was served with pasta which was all stuck together and over cooked. With the problems they are obviously having in the kitchen, I think Gladchucks is a big thumbs down, especiall since we drove 1.5 hours to eat there.
