Big let-down, Almost one taste. To start, we generally try the restaurant for their lunch menu, and in that regard have not been disappointed. On Friday PM we joined with friends, for dinner. This is my opinion, and not a consensus. Libations & starters. Mojitos, enjoyed by all. Margarita OK too. Just be advised that 2 for 1 means exactly that, no substitutions. If you don’t want the second drink, you will still pay for it. Overall, the drinks were OK, nothing superior or special. Chips and salsa. Chips are fresh and warm very good. The red sauce was too fine, no chunky onion, cilantro or hint of garlic, or heat, just some tomato and salt, probably canned. It’s way too bland. The hotter version appears to be mostly habenaro sauce, so its just hot, not with a spicy taste at all. It came in handy during the meal to add some heat to the dishes.CHEESE DIP. Quite thin and tasted like it was diluted with milk. Not even a bit cheesy or spicy. This one is a pass.Chicken Chimi – Chicken was bland, a bit dry.Chile Rellano with potato and cheese – It was warm at the thin end, otherwise still cool to cold in the middle. Disappointed.Rice and beans- The pink beans as refried beans, entirely unappetizing, tasted very bland, or maybe no taste at all. Rice was OK.Beef taco – The meat appeared as a ground-too-fine pinkish mystery meat, not even slightly brown or having any cumin flavor. Totally unexpected, as a lunch-time Taco was fine on prior occasions. My overall opinion of Los Toltecos was much lower this time than at any lunchtime meal I ever had. If I had to do this over again, I wouldn’t. Based on my limited selections for taste, even the competition, such as Taco Bell rates higher.

Salsa not fresh and tasted like out of jar. Chips were very bland and no taste. Over priced food was terrible. Food came out with no garnish or extras like sour cream, guacamole, or even extra salsa. Terrible experience. Stick with other known mexican restaurants in town.
Bones in Food.. While the food isnt that bad. I had a horrible experience I ordered the chicken burritos. I ate one at the restaurant and I brought one home. The one I brought home I found a 2 inch bone in it. Good thing I didnt bite on the bone that hard as it could have chipped a tooth. My four year old had 1/2 the burrito while I had the other half. Its a good thing she didnt have the half with the bone.Also this place is more expensive than other Mexican restaurants in Frederick.Bones in food just arent good!!!
Very Good! Earned a repeat customer. We were there a day or two after they first opened. After an initial issue with silverware, we enjoyed our chips and salsa – the chips were good and the salsa, while tasty, did not seem to be made in-house; although it is possible that only the tomato base was canned/jarred. Either way, I prefer completely in-house-made salsa – which seems to be the standard at most local Mexican restaurants.We ordered our appetizers, which arrived promptly and were VERY good.Then on to our main courses which, again, arrived promptly and were hot and delicious.The wait staff was courteous and quick – although so quick that sometimes it was difficult to catch them as they flew by.Overall – two thumbs up. Fantastic food and very good service.
