My new favorite bar in Frederick. I visit Frederick frequently for business and to visit my daughter and this is our new favorite bar and hang out. I like clean well lighted Irish bars that know their way around a pint and whatever else you might drink. I also appreciate a nice rustic basement and a band. This place has both! It is also comforting to know the staff would probably throw you out on your arse if you ordered a Black n Tan.
It’s an Irish Pub … Stoopid. McGoo’s is friendly, comfortable and the food sticks to your ribs. If you want a good, solid and relatively inexpensive meal and friendly conversation with the other patrons, staff and owner this is one of the best places in Frederick to go. This is one of my favorite spots so I have never thought of reading the reviews before tonight, but after reading some of the negative reviews I would like to offer some suggestions to help the authors. If you don’t like an open kitchen don’t ever sit in the expensive section of Volt. There is plenty of seating but if you got there and the place was full,,,give them a break. It you think someone is heckling you if they say your drink isn’t Irish, maybe you are the one that was having a bad day and need to work on your sense of humor. One the other hand if you want to have a good time feel free to heckle the owner and the staff……they are good folks and love to joke with the customers p.s. It’s also a great place for breakfast
Maria. My husband and I will never go back. We have patronized Magoo’s on two occasions, and on both, we have found the owner, Jennifer, to be very unpleasant. After the first visit, we chalked it up to a fluke. Our second visit merely confirmed our first impression. Frederick City is a lovely place to walk, shop and eat. However, with all of the fine eateries to choose from, there is no reason to go to a restaurant where the customer is not made to feel comfortable and welcome. After speaking with friends, we have found their experiences with Jennifer to be the same. She would be well-served removing herself from that environment–if you can’t be friendly to your customers, you don’t belong in that industry.
Magoo’s Pub. We had a wonderful experience. Great atmosphere. Top quality ingredients and the Guinness on tap is as smooth as it gets. Will absolutely go back!
Tried it once and only once. I was excited when they opened but what a disappointment. Bar, restaurant and kitchen are right on top of each other. Good pint of guess but nowhere to stand or sit and the bartender was less than pleasant. Then we made the mistake of going to the downstairs bar – seedy crowd at best we walked right out the downstairs door.
Service and food was great, a little pricey for what we had to eat but good experience.
