July 2016: My husband and I dined at OPA for the first time the other night for my birthday dinner. The place was not crowded (was it because it was a Tuesday night?); just a few people inside, as well as a few people outside. The place is nicely decorated and the service was wonderful.Luke, our waiter, told us about the specials but we ended up ordering off the menu. Typical Greek dishes, and a good variety, but on the pricey side. However the food we had was excellent and we’ll prepared. I ordered the lamb braised in an herb tomato sauce, which came with rice and one side. I selected the spinach with rice. I wish one of the side options had been a salad. The lamb was very tender, fall off the bone tender. My husband ordered the grilledlamb chops (same sides as mine). With his entree was a small portion of Tzatziki, which was the best we’ve had. I make it at home and later asked how they made it. Same ingredients but they add a little sour cream. I also tend to have a heavy hand with the garlic. I had a glass of white wine that Luke recommended. Very good. Overall an excellent dinner and evening at Opa.27 July 2016: I went back on Sunday with a friend for dinner. We sat at the bar having some wine, shared an appetizer; and we each ordered an entre. Zack, the bartender, was friendly with us. The place was pretty much empty again. Its sad to see, but my friend commented that the place is really big, maybe too big for this type of restaurant. We also both felt the prices are too high (which I stated above). Our appetizer – Taste of Opa for Two ($13.95) was a sampler of tzatziki, feta cheese, black olives, melitzanosalata, and taramosalata. It came with pita bread for dipping. It was very good, but the portion was small. I wanted a gyro sandwich as my entre, but didnt really need the fries and salad that came with it. They dont have anything on the menu that would fall between an appetizer and entre (i.e., small salads or pita sandwiches). I could have ordered a soup and salad (or two appetizers) but then that would have cost the same as an entre. Zack asked an older gentleman at the bar (owner?) if the entre could be discounted. He said he could take $2.00 off the bill. That was a little disappointing. The entre was $14.95. At other Greek restaurants Ive been to a gyro is typically around $7-9. As an example, I enjoy dining at Analias caf and their prices are much more reasonable: $6.95 for a gyro sandwich and $10.95 for the platter.Anyway, I figured at that price, I decided on the Greek style chicken. It was very good, flavorful, and tender. My friend had the chicken kebab, but the meat was on the dry side, and it was more expensive than my chicken. I really hope this restaurant does well but with their prices being high, they may fold soon.
