Four thumbs down – Stick with frozen California Pizza, it’s a better value. We had high hopes for this restaurant but ended up terribly disappointed. Walked in to find three hosts/hostesses too busy chatting away to be much interested in seating the two of us. One of the employees finally waved her hands around and said that they only had family seating except for a small round table she pointed to which was located in front of the right side window. The table looked ridiculously small to accommodate a pizza, drinks, plates and all the other accoutrements required for a proper meal. I then said that wed prefer the bar. To say the least, I was a bit confused by her use of family seating. If the owner is trying to appeal to family as the hostess inferred, did this also infer that they dont welcome couples and small parties? I pondered this question as my companion and I proceeded to the bar. I was immediately taken aback at how large the bar was. Not friendly and cozy at all. I couldnt stop wondering how the petite blond-haired bartender would ever be able to pass us our food without standing on a ladder. Fortunately a large male bartender greeted us, who was clearly tall enough to reach up and over the bar. After the male bartender handed us our menus he became obsessed with two ladies seated to our left, focusing a good bit of attention to one in particular. Over 20 minutes later he asked for our drink order. We wanted to order a carafe of wine and was told not possible. Carafes were only for the Sangria. We decided on two glasses of Pinot Noir, he only poured one glass and walked away. My companion had to wave his arms in the air to get the bartenders attention to let him know that he forgot to give us our second glass of wine. We received no apologies. Then, (fortunately for us) he disappeared for the next 15 minutes. However, when he returned, he didnt pay any attention to us again, but instead immediately refilled the ladys glass of water, and shockingly never bothered to refill our water glasses, which at that point were both half empty. We sat sipping our wine and water for a long time my wine glass and both of our water glasses were pretty near empty before the male bartender finally came back to take our food order. We ordered one of the gourmet pizzas to share. The bartender stated that the pizza is only 11 inches and he just wanted us to know that. Okay… was this statement another clue that we were being set up for yet another disappointment? This turned out to be the case. If it is the owners intent is to portray this place as a gourmet restaurant then theres a lot to be desired. Gourmet means you deliver something to the customer of value, and not hype the price and the ingredients. Based on what we experienced, there was about 99 to 1 ratio of price to quality and quantity of ingredients. I honestly feel that the frozen California Pizzas I can get from WalMart and Safeway are better tasting, and certainly a more affordable choice then what we got at Pistarros. We wont be returning and I cannot possibly recommend this place to any of my friends. This restaurant gets four thumbs down: one for inattentive, unprofessional service, another for the uninviting communal seating, the third for low value to price, and the fourth thumbs down for inadequate restroom facilities. It was hard to believe they only had one-stall toilets for each of the male and female restrooms. When spending an average of $25 to $30 per person for a meal and drinks, you should NOT have to wait in line to pee.
