Shame on Sumittra. Have visited this restaurant frequently since they opened and today, during Presidents Day I ordered again… When I picked up my lunch, instead of the normal price for lunch I am charged almost 4 dollars more and am told that its because of the federal holiday – that they are only selling dinner portion due to the holiday. I explained that I wasn’t told about this when I phoned in the order (as this was a pick-up) and that I would not have paid 14.00 for lunch – The place was packed full of patrons The size difference is maybe 1/4 cup more liquid in the green curry and the same amount of rice. My organization has constantly ordered from Sumittra for our parties and meetings – this will certainly have an impact on that decision going forward. If this is considered Normal Practice – it should be announced when placing the order. As far as I could see, the people inside the restaurant had the same size lunch portions as if I had eaten in…. Shame….
Our favorite restaurant. I felt like I should finally write a review of Sumitra. It is our favorite restaurant in Frederick! The foods are all delicious! I have tried at least five different dishes and have not been disappointed by any. The deserts are amazing, especially the mango sticky rice and the flan. Nice small downtown restaurant with pleasant decor. You won’t be disappointed! The prices are very reasonable.
Loved it!!! By far it surpassed my expectations.. The food was very very good.. Would recomend this to everyone who like thai food..

Thai Food. I have been enjoying Thai cuisine since the early ’80s. I relocated to Washington County Maryland about 8 years ago from theWashington DC area. Sumitra Thai is hands down the best Thai restaurant in the Frederick/ Hagerstown/ Shepardstown area.Original Thai prepared to your level of spiciness served in a gracious Thai manner. Amazingly good food and service to match.Highly recommended and reservations definitely a good idea.
Yummy!. Went for the first time this evening. The food was delicious! The portions were more than generous. I disagree with a previous review on the sweetness – it was just right. The spice level is off – the * rating is not at all spicey. There were 3 of us – we shared appetizers – the Peking Duck Roll (which was enough for a meal in itself!), the Curry Puff and the a special that was similar to crab rangoon – with real crab and little cream cheese (to die for!). All were flavorful and well presented. We had between us the Wonton and Tom Yum Soups. All quite lovely. For dinner, my husband had the salmon, I had the Volcano Shrimp and my father in law had mixed seafood dish. Again – very flavorful, well spiced (not hot) and well presented. There were leftovers, which we happily took home. We plan to return again!
