Best chile. Go back every week for a hit.
Steak’n Bacon. They’ve got a good sandwich, but it is so good that their portion leaves me wanting more. A cozy little hole, dependent completely on when you go. Evenings can be rowdy and loud, but lunch can be a nice relaxing affair.
Good place for a quick lunch. The fries are overrated, not crisp, cooked once. Share a bowl with friends. The lunch specials are fast if you are in a hurry. Friendly service makes up for the menu.
Casual place for a drink. I like going here more for drinks than food. Food is good, but not the best burgers I’ve ever had. I like this place more for its neat downstairs location and casual atmosphere. It’s been a staple in downtown Frederick for years now, and is truly an original place where the locals meet.
Best sandwiches South of Jersey. Awesome sandwiches, topped with great Wag’s yummy sauces. Everything is fresh and tasty. My family is from North Jersey and outside Elmora Ave, Wag’s is the best! HAH…must try.27 Jun, 2011If you don’t like it…. Either you are vegetarian or don’t like sandwiches! We LOVE Wag’s! Get a hankering for a good sandwich and cozy atmosphere, go to Wag’s. Either the Russian roast beef or Russian corned beef…Ruben…yummmm! Good chips, pickles and overabundant fries! Friendly, fast service!
Mixed Reaction. If you’ve never been to Wag’s, by all means try it out. This is an okay place to eat once in a great while but don’t expect fantastic food. The menu is limited but not so limited that you have trouble finding something to try. However, I’ve found that the meals are inconsistent. Sometimes you walk away thrilled with your meal and sometimes you wonder what they were thinking while they were preparing it. The fries are perhaps the most overrated and currently most disappointing thing on the menu. They used to be the best in Frederick. Now I would not even rate them as good as the fries as Five Guys, and they aren’t fantastic. I still go to Wag’s occasionally but not nearly as often as I once did. I just cannot count on the meals always being as good as they once were. That said: It is a Frederick experience you should try! You really should.
Eight steps below the competition…. (Their tag line from the chalkboard on the street above them…)Wag’s is on my usual dinner Rolodex — the burgers are great, and the fries are superb. But you have to be aware of the ambiance — its a basement bar. The linear restaurant has a bar with tables against the wall beside it, then a half dozen tables in pairs past that, and a circular table at the end. Photographs are, well, old bar photographs — I usually sit either under the photo of the bar from the 70’s or under a picture of Marilyn Monroe in top hat. Great place for a Yuengling on tap and cheap bar whiskey — and a great burger.
