My wife and I enjoyed this restaurant for the first time last night. Incredible on all counts! We arrived a bit before our reservation so had a seat at the bar. She had a Cosmo and I tried one of their many tasting flights of wine which was thankfully served in full size glasses and were quite significant in quantity as well as quality. The flight came with (as do all their wines and spirits) quirkily little description cards that add a little fun to the normally pretentious explanations of bouquet and undertone. For starters we ordered the scotch egg which was as delicious as the waitress and bartender had expounded and the pappardelle which was a delicate dream of a dish. For our meals, my wife had mussels in a Thai broth that had us sopping it up with every toasted foacaccia stick that accompanied the dish and I had the scallops which were nothing short of inspirational–cooked to perfection and laid over a gorgeous bed of beet risotto with wilted oyster mushrooms and topped with melt-in-your-mouth crispy parsnip chips every piece of this dish was delicious on its own and magic when taken together. A Pinot Noir and a local rye whiskey were outstanding complements (my next trip will be to Purcellville, VA to hunt down that rye distillery!). For dessert we split a powerful through small pumpkin cheesecake and a refreshing muscato. Lovely environs inside with a view of the creek outside, a helpful and attentive staff, and the amazing fare made this a night to remember. And at less than $150 with tip for it all, a bill I won’t have to try to forget. Highly recommend!

Price/Performance. Remember when you could go to Volt and have a great three course lunch at the bar for little money? No, you probably started coming after the TV show.Well that concept has resurfaced at Wine Kitchen where a former Volt chef is delivering a $19 lunch special of full sized portions of starters and mains, that include an entree sized steak salad with local greens and cherries (after) a well portioned pappardelle, or the addicting Seoul fries (bulgogi spiced pork over fries with queso fresco). If that is too much for lunch, interesting daily sandwich or burger specials usually run around $8 and have included a mediterranean spiced burger with well made frites or mesclun salad.Happy hour at the bar is another opportunity to enjoy this well made food at bargain prices. Splurge and order several of the tootsie roll sized duck spring rolls 3/$2. The steak frites at $6 is not as good as the $5 version at Taste Gastropub in Olney but well worth the money. I did not try the mussels with chorizo and fennel, but again at $3 it looked well worth the money. On the other hand beware the charcuterie plate with it’s thimble of duck rillette, chicken liver and what appears to be small slices of Olli salami from VA.The wine list is interesting without being self-indulgent but the pour sizes are small for the money. All in all though perhaps the best price performance in the area.

Yu-um!. DH and I have passed Wine Kitchen many times while strolling along Carroll Creek. Last week on a Tuesday night, we decided to finally eat there. Very nice atmosphere, comfortable seating. DH had the duck which was crispy, and had all the flavors of the spectrum encompassed in one dish. I opted for the NY strip with mashed potatoes. I figured a steak is a steak…well, I was pleasantly surprised when it was so yum! Topped with grilled onions and mushrooms. Oh boy. We were too full for dessert, but found the menu to be interesting and thought about going back and having dessert al fresco with a nice glass of wine…Great place. Do try.

So much fun! Wine flights are cool way to learn a lot about what you like and don’t like about certain wines. The food is terrific and service was bright and non pretentious considering all our questions about the wine we were experiencing. Glad we had a reservation on a Sat night- 7:30 was packed but we were seated in a short time. The charcuterie was some of the best we have had recently as well. All around a great night!

Really good meal. 25 August 2012: A friend of mine hosted her own birthday party celebration at The Wine Kitchen in Frederick Maryland with close to two dozen friends. She made arrangements with the restaurant to set up a wonderful pre-fixe menu with a few choices in each category: Appetizer, entre, and dessert.Along with dinner, flights of wine were included; however, due to the large group and not having enough wine glasses to go around (three wine glasses per flight), set several bottles of wine were placed on the table for everyone to sample. We sat in the private room, which part of the walls were lined with wine bottles. While a tight fit and very noisy from a boisterous fun group, everyone had an excellent time.It was hard for me to select from the menu, as there was a very nice variety to choose from. After much thought I selected the corn and bacon chowder, the roasted chicken with broccoli, cornbread puree, oyster mushrooms, and blue berries (sounds like an odd mixture but trust me, it was delicious), and peach tart tatin with (get this) goat cheese ice cream, blue berries, and basil (last photo). Tony ordered the heirloom tomatoes with compressed watermellon, shaved fennel wit buttermilk dressing, the steak with string beans and mashed potatoes, and the same dessert as me.While waiting for our food, we tried some of the wines. What’s nice about the Wine Kitchen is that they supply small cards with descriptions of the wines. My soup arrived and I could immediately smell the bacon. I love bacon! Who doesn’t? The soup was fantastic! I was slightly surprised that it was pured. I was expecting an actual chowder, chunky with diced bacon on top. Fine with me, as the flavors were wonderful and the smell and tast of bacon permeated throughout the soup. Others that ordered the soup were nodding their head in satisfaction. The chicken was tender and tasty and I liked the addition of the blueberries that gave it a slight hint of sweet flavor.Tony’s steak was cooked to order and a large cut to boot. String beans and mashed potatoes were nicely prepared. Their menu on the web site shows a $10 supplement but those that ordered the steak were charged a $15 supplement. All in all, a really good meal. The portions were appropriate for the price we paid, service was very good, and even the chef came out to greet the group. This is a place I will definitely return to for dinner.

First visit was very nice!. Had the butternut squash soup and a salad at lunchtime. Soup was excellent. Creamy and just right. Very flavorful. Salad was well presented and tast as well. Service was very good, not as stuffy as Volt. Restaurant has a nice upscale simple decor. Really inviting. Great spot. Will return soon.
