Okay. We stopped here because it was near our hotel. The food was just not what I’m used too. I was really looking forward to the chicken tamale, so ordered a combination plate to share with my hubby. The best thing on the plate was the taco, even though he ordered beef and got chicken ( think he got the chicken I was suppose to have in the tamale). The tamale was a thick glob of Mesa that wasn’t cooked thoroughly . Very little meat, and no taste. If you like mushy cornmeal with cheese, and a shred or 2 of chicken, then you might like it. There are too many options to go back, shop around!
Guapo’s at Rio is the worst. First, after two visits, including one dining experience, this is no where near the quality Guapo’s that I know from Tenely Circle NW. My first experience a few weeks ago was poor maily because the service was so poor. The food was so-so; not Tenely quality. The waitress was unattentive; I had to go looking for her three times. The beer selection was not as robust as Tenely Circle, but I could deal with that. It was the service (lack thereof) that really put me off.This past Thursday 8/2/2012 I decided to give them another try. I looked up their menu online and already knew what I wanted. I drove from Kentlands specifically to watch Olympics and golf at their bar while I had lunch. After I parked and trekked down to the restaurant, I was told I could not eat at the bar because it was always reserved for a special group. NOWHERE on their website do they tell you this. That would have saved me a wasted trip. I told them that there was no warning to customers of that nature and wherever I was to eat it was going to be at the bar. They just gave me a you-can’t-get-there-from-here appology and I left.This is now on my list of places to avoid at all cost.
Save Room for Dessert. The first thing you see when you walk in the restaurant is the tortilla machine. This is a good sign. They could just bring me fresh tortillas and salsa and I would be a happy camper. The service is excellent and prompt. One nice variation is that the rice has more of a saffrony, yellow color. The flavor is still good and compliments the beans nicely. The ground beef tacos are average and include pinto beans in the mix, which is extra tasty. The carne asada tacos will be choice next time to see if they might be more interesting. The dessert menu includes all of the classics, but hands down the best choice is the tres leches cake. Save room for this cake, it is a fantastic ending to any meal and you will not be disappointed. At a minimum get one for the table and let everyone have a bite.
We are from Texas. We know Tex Mex. and for a few moments, we forgot we were in Maryland. Great food.
Amazing food and great atmosphere but the service is absolutely terrible. After our pager went off we were forced to wait another 30min before we were seated while many others who arrived later were seated before us.
Love this place!
Great place to be. When I feel I want to eat great and have fun, this is the place I always go. Great place to celebrate!
