New favorite Dim-Sum spot !!!. Took my mother-in-law and fiance (both Caucasian) to New Fortune for Mother’s Day Dim-Sum treat (May 2010). I am a Chinese American 46yr old female born / originally from Philadelphia and I miss having easy quick access to good ole Philly’s Chinatown (don’t miss the parking there though). I had been going to Oriental East in Silver Springs MD (now that I live in MD) and waited close to 1-2 hours to get seated there. I was quite ready to try something new….as in New Fortune which I found thru the internet and I am sooo happy we drove the extra distance (from Chesapeake Beach). Got there around 11am on Sat thinking we would have a long wait there as well. It was a little concerning at first since there was no line and it was practically empty. Let that not fool you! There was a steady stream of people/groups that came in after us and by the time 12 o’clock rolled around, the room was nicely packed (still some big and small tables available) no waitng necessary. The food was comparable and perhaps even better than Philly’s Chinatowwn (can’t believe I just admitted that), much to my surprise. I’ve also been to SF and NY’s Chinatowns in my lifetime as well. What a huge variety of dim-sum to pick from. My strong words of advice, come starving and do not dive immediately into all the dishes – you will regret it if you do! Or, come with a big group if you can! Wait a little while to see all the wonderful offerings they have and then strategically start picking. There is almost always a cart at your table-side. Also nice was the fact that the tables were spread out, they weren’t crammed in like sardines, you could actually hear each other talk, clean environment, prices were very reasonable, you don’t feel rushed and the waiters/waitresses were sooo attentive. Lots of fellow asian customers, which pretty much says it all. I highly recommend New Fortune to all dim-sum lovers and newbies. This is now my # 1 spot for Dim-Sum! You MUST give them a try, if you haven’t done so yet!
Good standard dim sum available even on weekdays (carts 11-2). A+ salt and pepper shrimp and pineapple buns. Dumplings also very good. But nothing new or inventive here.
Dim sum in northern MD. Really good dim sum. a few misfires but most entries were great. friendly staff. very reasonable. if you’re going on Sunday get there early.
Go for the dim sum. The dim sum is fantastic, but be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes for a table, this is the go to spot for dim sum in Northern Montgomery County, so it’s always crowded.
B+. Great selection of Dim Sum with cart service on weekends. Superb specialty dishes: sea Cucumber, crispy Pork intestines and Abalone! What a fabulous treat for a San Franciscan. Open late most nights Fri & Sat 2 am!
Great Seafood!. You’ve got to come to this place for the seafood dishes. My family has been patronizing this place for years. Their takeout still tastes good at home! We usually get the seafood and tofu hot pot, smoked pork, seafood on fried egg noodles (forgot the name!), wonton noodle soup (really, really hearty and good!), duck, and much more. Everything is delicious here — BUT you can only really enjoy it if you order the authentic stuff. That means going out of your comfort zone and stop ordering orange chicken, beef broccoli, etc. Try something new because at New Fortune, it really doesn’t hurt.
I come for the Dim Sum. Whenever t’m in the area and feel like having dim sum, New Fortune is where I go. They have the little carts laden with plates of food moving among the tables for you to look at and choose from for dim sum.
