Great. We adore this place. I wish Hagerstown had more cheap, authentic ethnic food like this. I usually get the beef tacos. The chicken tacos were just okay but the beef is super tasty, with guacamole, cilantro and a delicious green sauce wrapped in soft, semi-thick corn tortillas. It straddles the line between feeling kind of indulgent with the beef but kind of light and healthy at the same time and it’s only $5. That’s the price of fast food and this is sooo much better. I usually add on a cheesy, toasty-tasting pupusa. My partner loves the quesadillas. I’ve also had the tamale; it tasted decent but is kind of a mess to eat. I keep meaning to try other things, but then what I’ve already had is good enough that I’m stuck on it. The staff is friendly and they also have a nice range of Mexican sodas made with real sugar.
This Place I Know – Then & Now. I’ve been going to Higher Ground for about a year. When it first opened, the owner and staff were eager to please and made what I considered an above average cup of coffee. I don’t go for a lot of those grande-latte-frappa-mocha monstrosities that are pleasing to many. I like a coffee shop.Sadly, the original owner passed away suddenly at the end of the year, and Higher Ground has sunk rather low. The staff is less than pleasant, bordering on snide. I have been there when other customers have literally had to explain how to make something on the menu. The coffee is average on the best days, and I will probably not stop in again.
