Witness to decline. We became enamored with L.J’s in 2010 and enjoyed a number of remarkable meals in both the restaurant and bar. Sadly our recent visits have been a succession of disappointments. Items and drinks listed on the menu are not available. Server competency has deteriorated, we asked three times for water, twice for condiments etc. Staff in wal-mart stretch pants wondering around cluelessly while tables wait to be cleared. $7 for a beer and they don’t have enough bar ware to serve it in the same glass twice in a row.WAS a great place, but I don’t think we’ll be back

Good drinks, ho-hum food. We’d heard good things and went in with high expectations. YJ’s is a bit out of the way, hidden amongst medical offices, but the interior is nicely appointed and very modern-looking. When we saw the menu, we were excited to find French food in Hagerstown. But when our waiter told us that this was the French bistro incarnation of their seasonally rotating menu, I became worried. French cooking is not for the uninitiated, and can be done very badly. We started with cocktails; I with a Stray Kat (dirty martini) and my wife with a Cheshire Kat (something with absinthe). Both were excellent. Our appetizer was a selection of three cheeses, served with crostini. These were excellent, but the portion was tiny for $12. My entree was the cassoulet; basically a French meat & bean stew. It was topped with bread crumbs that were as dry as the Sahara desert. The interior was very beany, but not very meaty. My wife’s duck breast was also okay, but none of it blew our socks off. The service was good. With a glass of wine, our bill was about $100 (after adjusting for the fact they charged us $15 for our $12 cheese plate that only had about $8 worth of cheese on it). That’s a lot for great cocktails, okay wine, too-little cheese, and so-so entrees. We might go back when the menu changes, but this price-to-quality ratio might make us think twice.

One of the best meals I’ve had in recent years. Hard to believe this quality dining experience is in Haherstown. Fabulous food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Can’t say enough good things. Can’t wait to go back. Award winning wine list and nationally recognized.

Best place around hands down. Menu changes frequently so there is always something new and exciting. Chef is amazingly talented and creates the most flavorful meals. The lounge is a relaxed atmosphere and has a special for those who are budget conscious. Special is only available on yhe weekends and is an amazing entree and side with your choice of beer or wine for $10. I suggest reservations if you want to eat in the diningroom.

Total Surprise. My wife and I were in town visiting my Brother and Sister In-Law. They’ve mentioned that we need to check this place out for the past couple of years, but we’ve never gotten around to it. Honestly, the restaurant is light years ahead of anything else I’ve seen in the area. The menu is extremely varied but still manages to be cohesive in style plus it changes seasonally and even weekly for some of the dishes. I tried the lamb chops and was not disappointed. They were done perfectly medium rare as requested, and presentation was picture perfect. The decor and ambiance were top notch and extremely modern/stylish without being uncomfortable. Service was very good, but not standout with the exception of the hostess (Maria), who managed to squeeze us in without reservations (and with a smile) on a night when they were booked. The wine list was impressive, but the index cards and box they kept them in was a pain in the rear. The cards were all out of order which might just be attributable to a busy night of customers rustling through them. Otherwise, it was a novel idea for presentation and not nearly as intimidating as a long list would have been.Overall, I couldn’t have been happier with the trip and will make sure we’re back again in the future.

Nothing else like it!. LJ’s is a very modern place, there is nothing else like it! I really like the open kitchen, so you can see your own meal being prepared! Plus, the menus change seasonally. The wine menu is very extensive, and you can just ask your server how much you would like to spend and which wine would go well with your dinner, and the perfect wine is brought to your table! Both reletively traditional meals and exotic meals are featured in the menu to suit all tastes. Its a great place!! Check it out!!

Went there once. The salad was the best thing I ate. The service was the most obnoxious I have ever experienced. I do not need to be spoken down to by my waiter. You do not elevate the image of a restaurant by being snooty. I have eaten in some amazing restaurants all over the world and I so not appreciate some smug kid treating me like I’m an idiot. Won’t be going back.
