On our way to Annapolis, we stopped for dinner. Everything about this place was authentically German. We lived in Germany for a couple of yrs, and have never had a bad meal in Germany. Here we had the Schnitzel mit spaetzle, very well done. Desert consisted of apple strudel with the vanilla sauce, all of which was excellent. The service was impeccable.

A great find! We dined recently and enjoyed the restaurant and food immensely. Food was delicious; vegie of the day was creamed spinach and prepared very well. Waitress was very courteous and only made 1 slip (reached across companion to grab glass to refill). If ever visiting the area, we will return. Yum!

Perfect Lunch. On a road trip through my old stomping grounds. Stopped in for a wonderful meal. Good cooking. Nice taste. Wonderful friendly service. Comfortable atmosphere. My husband is wary of overflavoured or over spiced food. This agreed with us both. Try it! Sere gut!

Perfect dining experience!. A few weeks ago, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the Schmankerl Stube. It was a cold and snowy Wednesday night when we walked through the entrance of the restaurant and were immediately greeted by the owner, a friendly middle-aged man, who offered us a place to hang our coats before seating us and politely giving us the option of a table next to the fireplace. I was immediately impressed by the cozy atmosphere and authentic Bavarian decor and servers uniforms. Our waitress was very friendly and professional, while also being very knowledgeable about everything on the menu without seeming pretentious. Being a former waitress myself, I was impressed with the fact that we never had to ask for anything the entire time we were there. We were able to relax, converse, and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed and constantly bothered. The menu included classic German fare offering vegetarian and seafoord options, and although everything was listed in German, it was very descriptive so I knew exactly what I was ordering. For drinks we decided to go with draft beer by the 1/2 Liter. I wanted something light to go with dinner so I had the Hacker-Pschorr, and my friend tried the Spaten Oktoberfest- both came in appropriate glasses and were poured perfectly. Our waitress brought us a complimentary bread basket which included Rye bread with a side of butter and their house cream cheese spread infused with capers and anchovies (tasty yet not over-powering). We started with the Wurst Sampler appetizer, which consisted of 3 different types of German sausages (which tasted homemade) accompanied by mustard and curry sauces for dipping. Delicious! For our main course, I had the Pork and Beef Tenderloin Tips in Munich style gravy, which came with Spatzle and a bundle of Green Beans wrapped in bacon, and my friend ordered the Wiener Schnitzel. Both of us thought our meat was very tender and prepared perfectly. After learning that all desserts were made in-house, our waitress brought out a mouthwatering dessert tray so we could see what each option looked like. How could we say no?! I had the Black Forest Cake with brandied cherries, while my friend enjoyed warm Apple Streusel; perfect ending to a perfect meal. By far the best restaurant and most unique/special dining experience in Hagerstown.

All I can say is you’ll love whatever you order. Pint sized beers are awesome. Wait staff beyond friendly. Reservations highly recommended. Owner is always there to greet you. Don’t leave without viewing the dessert tray!
