Scenery is Excellent, Food & Service not so. I grew up next to this place and you don’t go for the food or the service, you go for the view. If this place had the food of Laurrapin and the service of Southwest, this would be the best restaurant hands down. The view is what people go there for, so order some drinks and relax.
We waited for 2 hours for our food. it was awful DONT COME!!!! Awesome views.
Nice view, tasty drinks, great company. Sometimes all you want is a decent restaurant to enjoy a nice waterside view having a cold beer with your friends or family. The Tidewater Grille fits the bill. If you enjoy eating/drinking outside, ask to be seated on their deck to take in the water views. Obviously, there is indoor seating for lousy weather days or those who prefer to be inside. I believe being on their deck adds to a positive experience. Our waitress was very friendly, polite, and helpful. Service was slow; however, when you’re not in a rush, having a great time, you want to linger as long as possible. My wife ordered the lunch size spinach salad and crab bites, and I ordered a bowl of cream of crab soup and their seafood sampler (steamed shrimp, clams, and mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce). The spinach salad portion was much smaller than other restaurants (should have ordered the entree size for lunch) and the crab bites were too dry (too breaded). The cream of crab soup was superb. The seafood sampler was delicious and filling. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch on the deck and would like to return.
Some good food, but not firing on all cylinders today. Grade: C+Tidewater tried but didn’t deliver a memorable performance. Our waiter tried but was new to the profession and couldn’t keep track of everything without being asked a second time. The kitchen was slow and word about a downed oven didn’t make it out until we’d finished our meal, still waiting for an entree item. One side dish was forgotten completely. The crab dip appetizer was way too rich, relying on too much cream cheese. Cream of crab soup was good, finished with a hint of sherry. Crab cakes, the crab cake sandwich, and surf & turf (including a huge lobster tail) were all very good. While the rest of my family enjoyed their meals, I did not fare so well.I opted for a daily special, swordfish with the optional lump crab meat and hollandaise sauce. A sad swordfish steak was dwarfed on the plate by a clumsy mound of rice pilaf and hidden by an unusually bright yellow hollandaise. It was obvious that this had sat for some time under a heat lamp as the sauce had congealed. In fairness, the manager actually overcompensated for some problems by removing an entire entree, which was very generous of him. Although there was some very good food here, a few elements of the operation do need some work.
ZERO STARS — HORRIBLE customer service. I loved this restaurant in the past. However, they are antiquated in reservations and very busy on summer weekends. You cannot make a reservation other than calling AND SPEAKING TO A WARM BODY. I left a reservation (w/ my phone number) on their recording last Saturday around 3:30 pm for dinner at 7:30 pm that night. When we arrived, they had no record of the reservation and an hour plus wait. The bimbos at the front desk were of no help; WORSE YET, the owner was there and did absolutely nothing. I flat out told them I would not be returning. WAS my favorite but no longer. The owner should have made some sort of concession and/or apologized and taken me aside to offer a discount on a forthcoming meal there. I wouldn’t set foot in there again if it’s the last restaurant on the East Coast. It’s not cheap either.
Not worth it. Way overpriced, mediocre food quality and bad staff. Wouldn’t recommend at all.
Depends on which cook is working on how bad food is. Wait staff is just ok. Awesome views.
