Find another place. Not sure where to begin. The food was undercooked, the hostesses were in complete confusion about what tables were available and when. While eating (and this has happened before) they drag tables and chairs around the outside deck like cavemen and it sounds and feels like fingernails on a chalkboard – doesn’t help the ambiance. Service overall is horrible, the food is average to below average. The only thing they have going is a nice view outside. Too many other choices to waste time here.27 Jun, 2012Don’t bother. Going to rams head is like the weather, except that its never really great there. It goes from mediorce to a nightmare. They have two things going for them – their own beer – and the outside deck. It all goes downhill from there. I could go on for hours about one horrible experience after another. I go back because its close to home. Not anymore, I’m done. At the top of the complaint list is the service, its just plain horrible. Cross your fingers when your order finally comes out, it may or may not be cooked and if it is really your order, count your blessings.

Rude & Nasty. My last, and I do mean last, visit to Ram’s Head in Savage MD, the food was cold, over cooked and well just awful. The service was even worse. Our server who couldn’t get the time of day right, was ignorant of the menu and policies, but hey she was young and I could forgive her for that. When we complained she left and only came back with our bill when we asked the bus boy (who was taking down umbrellas and folding up chairs two hours before closing) to please get our bill because we wanted to leave. Then to top of the evening, as we went to the bar to pay because the waitress never came back, she stood in front of us and bitched about us! She didn’t even recognize us as her customers. But wait, the manager, couldn’t break herself away from the bitch fest to take our money. WTF! I would not be writing this if it was not the first bad experience we have had there. That was our third and final visit. Too bad, its a fantastic location! Seriously, I would rather eat at Hard Rock, but that is a whole other rant.

Could be better. My wife and I go to more than average amount of restaurants. In fact, when we originally moved, I liked the fact there was a tavern nearby. I have been disappointed nearly every time I have visited the Ram’s Head. It is quite clear that we are not the only ones either. On a very quiet Saturday evening, the last time we visited the gentlemen at the table behind us made it very clear that it would be nice to have someone take their order. Apparently, that party had been seated without service for nearly 15 minutes. The reasons I have been disappointed was the service has been sub par. I have let my glasses sit empty and it is like pulling teeth to get someone’s attention. They also advertise a large beer selection, but I had to go through about 4 beers a time to find one in stock. This is a negative hit since they have a beer club and cant keep it in stock. The servers also don’t know how the club works either. Finally, they changed their menu and removed the burrito which was one of my favorites. Now for the few positives. The scenery is nice. It has a deck and two other dining areas, which is nice. It is also at the Savage Mall, which is small and quiet, but it makes it nice so you don’t have to search for parking.

A Little Less Savage. For anyone who hasn’t visited this outpost of the Fordham/Rams Head beer pubs let me suggest you try.The restaurant is divided into three distinctive parts. On the main level is the bar/wooden boothed tavern area which offers the same menu as above in a slightly less formal area. Also, the main level is the entrance to one of the best patio areas in Howard/Upper PG County. The upper level is more formal and is better suited for the waves of people who visit for the Savage Mill antique and craft shops. The basement Ratskeller is open at limited hours and with several specials, but does not welcome. In theory, the main draw is the beer which was brewed in Annapolis for years until success caused a move to Delaware and an insidious partnership with Budweiser. While the year round beers are acceptable the generally unavailable seasonals are better. The menu on the other hand is one step above the standard bar food offering. A personal favorite is the Kent Island Salad with your choice of Fried or Grilled chicken over a spinach salad accompanied by a tremendous Jalapeno/Cilantro dressing. Also, for those so inclined there is a tasty Turkey burger. If you’re antique shopping or better yet if you’re hiding from someone antique shopping, stop at the Ram’s Head and enjoy the beer and food, expecially if the weather allows you to stay outside on the patio.
