Know what to expect. If you’re new to the area, READ THIS before going. Rita’s is an East Coast favorite so the love of Rita’s is somewhat based on tradition. There’s also a lot to love for it’s own right though. It’s all about texture and flavor. The ices are just that – icey. Don’t expect a smooth, creamy texture from an ice. They’re a little gritty. But, the ice packs a powerful, sharp and crisp flavor and comes in many flavors. On the other hand, the custard is very smooth and creamy. But, the custard has a mellow and mild flavor. So, when you mix the ice and custard you get a symphony of complimentary textures and flavors.
A great place to cool off, hang with friends, and of course enjoy a delicious frozen treat. They have a very wide array of treats including custard, hot fudge sundays, amazing Italian ice, gelatos (this is an Italian ice with a bit of custard on the bottom and swirled at the top), and my personal favorite, a misto shake (this is your choice of 1 Italian ice and custard blended together). The prices are very reasonable and the whole atmosphere is fun. There are many benches and picnic tables under the shade to sit on and although it is often crowded, I highly recommend Rita’s for anyone looking for a cheap, delicious dessert.
