I am giving it 3 stars coz they messed up in a few things. We ordered Chicken and Shrimp bbq. And both of them were marinated or covered with the exact same marinade, and plus the wait-staff could be more attentive in places like this where you are cooking the meat on the table. The staff know more about when to stop the cooking, and how long to cook it. We turned off the stove ourselves, and we were a little late in doing so, due to which our shrimp was a little over cooked as well. A good variety of side dishes, with the bbq and all of them were pretty good, I will admit. Overall a good experience, if you want a close authentic Korean BBQ. But i still think you should have variations in the marinade, for different kinds of meat on the bbq.On our second visit, which was an office party with over 25+ people. The service was not bad, but the food was not good. Then banchan was good but the duck for our grill was very fatty and not in a good way. Was very chewey. The octopus for grilling was also over cooked and rubbery. & we didn’t grill those things the wait staff was doing it for us. Especially the duck & octopus was grilled at a different table and brought for us. foodiemuggles.com
Good place for KBBQ in Ellicott City. (11/4/2014) Have heard a lot about Shin Chon and have a lot of the same observations as many others here: people drive like maniacs in the parking lot, service is hit or miss, prices higher than most other KBBQ places in the area.Decided to try some new (to us) things on the hot plate. Duck BBQ was 1/2-inch pieces of duck breast sliced across the grain, seasoned with salt and pepper. On the grill ended up somewhat rubbery, could’ve benefited from some crispness (more flame!). We accidentally got a bokkeum, stir-fry of spicy octopus, sliced pork belly, cabbage, dangmyeon (sweet potato starch noodles), and the largest jalapenos I’ve ever seen. Pork belly was unseasoned, baby octopus was marinated in gochujang (mostly heat, not much seasoning). I think I prefer the marinated meats elsewhere. Banchan were plentiful and varied and promptly refilled. Seafood Pajun was probably the best I’ve ever had, chock full of scallions, peppers, baby octopus. What made it really special was that it was light, ethereal, golden crisp on both sides and creamy in the middle, really amazing.Overall, very good meal, lots food, not skimpy on the portions, but you’re really paying for it. We were there on a weeknight and in between the usual lunch and dinner times, so a table was easy to get, but place was filling up by the time we left (families, college kids, food tourists). They’re a mainstay of KBBQ in this area, but lots of other places to try.
A go-to korean restaurant. This is our favorite korean restaurant in the area. when there’s nothing in particular we want but want some good, homey korean food, we go here. and the BBQ is always good.
