Horrible service from Peter the manager. Just ate at Xitomate today for lunch and had such a horrible service it prompted me to write about my experience. I’ve been to Xitomate at least 7 times in the past year for lunch/dinner/happy hour cause they have decent mexican food and due to its convenience to my work. While eating there today with my coworkers I ordered the steak quesadillas while being waited on by Breauna. I had a bad feeling when she took our orders without writing down our order and asked my colleague to repeat his order twice. When our food had come out, they brought out steak fajitas instead of quesadillas. Not wanting to wait or inconvenience the wait staff I said it’s ok I can just eat the fajitas. I asked for some cheese on the side so I could make a type of quesadillas with the steak and wraps. When we ask for our bill, they had charged me for the fajitas which were 6 dollars more than the quesadillas. I asked Breauna if she could charge me for the food i had originally asked for and ordered. She brings her manager, Peter, who states, since I ate the fajitas, i would be charged for the fajitas. As a favor, he would deduct the 50 cents they had charged me for the cheese. When stating i would take the fajitas, I wasn’t told or explained i would be charged for the higher priced entree. I didn’t even know the price of the fajitas and thought i was doing them a favor by agreeing to eat the fajitas. When i repeated stated I shouldn’t have to pay for the higher priced dish, Peter kept repeating that I had eaten the fajitas and I would have to pay for this dish. I just paid my bill in order to leave but this experience left a horrible taste in my mouth. As someone that frequents this restaurant i found it extremely tacky and a bad business decision that they would insist on charging me an extra 6 dollars but lose any future business with me. I will make sure to stay clear of Xitomate when planning any future lunches, dinners and happy hours. On a side note, i noticed the quality of the food deteriorating the past year. When the restaurant first opened, the food was made to order, but these days, the enchiladas suizas, my usual go to, seem to be premade and just microwaved. Also, the water glasses on the table are sometimes dirty, which prompts me to order soda everytime i visit.

I notice the three reviews , all negative, are from Feb 2014 which was shortly after they opened. Whatever issues they had , they must have corrected. We went and everything was awesome !!! The crab guacamole is totally yummy !! The shrimp tacos yum. Nobody at my table had anything bad !! Drinks may be a little pricey but the bartender knows their stuff ! Skip the dessert and get an extra Rita ! Give this ace a try. Great summer time place to eat ! I plan to hit it again soon. ! Nice patio too.

Not Fresh. Michael and I decided to give this place a try today. We will not be going back. Staff was friendly. Decor was nice. Very first warning that things might not turn out well was when we tried to open our menus and they were sticky. One of the staff heard the sound and gave us cleaner menus and apologized. We were also amused when were read the drink tent on the table that was misspelled. Our waitress let us know when we told her we were new to the restaurant that the food was authentic Mexican and not the usual Tex-Mex, which was fine for us. I love authentic Mexican after living in San Diego. We started perusing the menu and but then we were told that they were still serving brunch and we could only order from the brunch and/or the appetizer menu. As we were not in the mood for breakfast, we decided to try the sampler as it looked pretty hardy. It contained a couple of different kind of flautas, tamales and stuffed peppers. The sampler was attractive at first glance. There were two kinds of flautas, one we did not even try a bite of as they were overcooked and the filling was burnt. The other one had sort of a tuna flavored fish paste inside and was not too bad. However they should have left off the balsamic vinegar on the pico de gallo. They were also barely warm. In fact most of the supposedly freshly made items, were only warm and not freshly made. The tamales were not bad, although not a lot of filling and again, barely warm. The jalapeno peppers were stuffed with a tuna mixture that tasted fishy and was not appetizing. All in all, it was not great. Also, we were not the only ones who were not impressed. Another couple just had the guacamole and decided not to stay for anything more. Once we got home and looked them up online it turns out Xitomate is owned by Turf Valley.

No flavor and very fishy. We stopped in to give the Xitomate a try. First the menu pages of both menus were stuck together. New menus brought to us but when we began to order, we were told that only the first page (appetizers) and the last page brunch were being served. With the limited options, we choose the Xitomate Especial sampler platter and Tamales. Without going into detail, most of the items arrived warm rather than hot. The fish (rumored to be tuna) had a very distinct fish odor which made me sick to my stomach, The taquitos were burnt. Upon visiting the bathrooms, I found them in good condition. When the waitress asked about the food, we pointed out several things and was told that the dishes were traditional Mexican and served in true style. I guess lukewarm and fishy is like most Mexican towns I have visited in my travels. So, in one sense, the waitress was not lying. Glad I had a chance to empty my stomach content before leaving. I am sure the tequila selection is excellent, but the food is less than appetizing and overpriced. There are several other local places where the food is much better, fresh, and at half the price. No doubt the prices are supporting the tequila bar.

Noooooo!. Overpriced overhyped! I’m a Mexican food lover…authentic Mexican and TexMex! Husband and I got there at 6:00 on a Saturday evening and took a seat at the bar. We both got a house marg which I would give a 5 on a scale from 1-10. We had to remind the bartender that we wanted chips and salsa and ordered some guacamole. We ordered it mild. The avocados were fresh, the guacamole as okay, the chips were tasteless, and the salsa came in a tiny plastic container that would hold ketchup at a fast food joint. I ordered the beef tip tacos…..let me say that my dogs food tastes better when we fry up some tough meat that we can’t eat. No seasoning, no cheese, no sauce, no guacamole. Terrible! My husband ordered a chicken burrito…bland, dry, no cheese. We really just wanted to leave! One and done! If you’re a true Mexican food liver…DONT GO HERE!
