We found Roma Cafe by accident and couldn’t be happier. My son had activity nearby and we needed a quick meal. It was so much more than that! The selection was huge – not only Italian but a great seafood selection as well. The service was super. The food was delicious. The crab soup bowl was only $3.99 and is probably the best I’ve ever eaten – seriously. And that is coming from someone from Baltimore! The prices are reasonable, too. My son’s stuffed shells were so good that I couldn’t stop trying it. My chicken gyro was fresh and flavorful. It is a casual (read not fancy) restaurant with great food. Simply loved it!

Carry-out. 15+ people in my office got something different from their menu and it all looked good. Everything from the salad to pizza to the grilled chicken sub was made to order and delicious.

A neighborhood place not in your neighborhood. (01/21/2011) This one is in our usual rotation for dinner with the in-laws. It’s a basic place, family-run, a little on the divey side (looks like it was formerly a pizzeria, checked tablecloths and checked vinyl tiles on the floor). Some things come out better than others, we’re still trying to figure out what the pattern is. I usually like the broiled seafood platter, crab cake (mayonnaise-y, lumpy, and a little bread crumb filler), and the crab imperial (big pearly white lumps of Venezuelan crabmeat in basically a mayonnaise, paprika, Old Bay concoction, better with a squirt of lemon). This time I had the Seafood Imperial, a 6-inch gratin dish filled with seafood (3 U21-25 shrimp, 3 large sea scallops, and about 5 oz. of jumbo lump crabmeat) lightly seasoned with cracked black pepper, heavily napped with their imperial sauce and broiled. The sauce gets a nicely browned, and the seafood gets insulated and basically steams in it’s own juices. They cook the seafood just to the point of turning from translucent to opaque. MIL is fond of the rainbow trout when it’s on the menu, basically just a whole fish butterflied and broiled. My husband likes the pizza and stromboli type things. We all get a side salad (the basic iceberg variety), and really like their house dressing (slightly creamy red wine vinaigrette). Essentially, don’t expect a whole lot of creativity or a whole lot of zip. Hmm, now that I’ve said all this, why do we still go there…it’s cheap, the food is fresh (well, most of it, things like desserts, salads and vegetables, pizza, seafood look like they’re prepped in house, things like a chicken tender or breaded chicken cutlet are obviously frozen products), the family is nice (they’re also the servers, so cut them a little slack, they’re not pros). It really feels like a neighborhood kind of place, and they don’t need to advertise that in a slogan.
