Franklin’s is my default restaurant. I love getting the nickel lamb sliders with onion rings. The spinach salad is terrific. BBQ options are great, you can’t go wrong with the plate or sandwich. Oh yeah, the beer is fantastic with the new brew master. Get the stout, it’s really great.
Pretty Good. My boyfriend and I went to lunch here on a Monday afternoon and the food was hot and fresh and very delicious. We had some of the seasonal beer and it was really wonderful. My boyfriend had a burger and I had a Ruben. The sandwiches were HUGE and the fries were absolutely amazing.
Needs some improvement. This place is attractive (albeit in an unimaginative typical brewpub way), has a fun giftshop, and a large menu. Yet the food never is as good as one anticipates. The quality of the ingredients is good, and the servings are huge (I guess that many consider that a plus), but the flavors just miss the mark somehow. Nothing is ever really bad–but little that I’ve had is what I’d call delicious, or something that I’d go back for. This place was a wonderful outpost in the former wasteland that was downtown Hyattsville. In that venue without any other decent restaurants nearby, people tended to overrate this place. But now since other places are moving in the burgeoning new Hyattsville, Franklin’s needs to step up its game. Maybe a new chef is in order. One thing that Franklin does well is to serve and manage crowds and large tables of customers–service is speedy and efficient, with the wait staff well-trained and helpful.
Great lunch menu, horrid dinner menu. Great beer.23 Feb, 2011Great lunch menu, horrid dinner menu.
Great family restaurant… A Hyattsville treasure! The general store carries wonderful wines, kitschy gifts, toys, etc. Love the escargot special, mussels, Thai ribs…
College Park Gem. If you are in the College Park/Hyattsville area and are not willing to head into the District, do not fear. You can still find a great dinner with an amazing beer right down the road. Franklin’s brews their own beer (which is fabulous; try the sampler!), which is enough reason to love a restaurant. But not just that; they also have tasty food for whatever you are looking for. Their specials are not that special though, I would just stick with something on the menu. If you have a chance afterward, stop off in the quirky gift shop/liquor store!
