Mediocre food. Grilled veggies are decent enough but the beef kabob meat was tough. Falafel sandwich was too much pita bread and not enough falafel. Not to mention the bread was so tough it was rather hard to bite in to. I could excuse some of food medicroty if the prices were inexpensive, but this is not the case at Matts. The decor and atmosphere is not too bad, we liked all the plants scattered around and there was a stready stream of locals coming in for lunch. Overall value seems average at best, we are unlikely to come back.
I come to the Shady Grove area 4-6 times per year and usually eat at Moby’s. I noticed Matt’s while looking around online and figured I would give them a try since the menu was very similar to Moby’s and it was much closer to my hotel.Upon arrival I also realized it was much more accessible than Moby’s Rockville location. The inside was much nicer too. I ordered my combo plate with a side salad & drink. I was disappointed they give you the tiny cups like Moby’s but at least they had Coke products unlike Moby’s that has Pepsi (yuck). I sat down and my salad and flat bread was brought out to me on real plates with real silverware and a nice thick dinner napkin. So far, so good. My combo meal came out with chicken & beef. The first thing I noticed is that their were less pieces of meat, however, the pieces were larger than Moby’s and they were glistening. Both types of meat were very flavorful and moist. My grilled tomato was of good size and my rice had some onions on the side for extra flavor. The gentleman waiting on me was also much more friendlier than the staff at Moby’s. Exiting this location was just as easy getting in to it. I will definitely be back.
I like this hybrid set up they have. A touch of elegance and a touch of walk up ordering. Prices are in line with the portions. Very tasteful and satisfying.
