Good food for the price, portions are reasonable and I usually have leftovers for another meal. It gets crazy busy in there during lunch hours during the week though, so I haven’t been in a while. They need more space!

Not Bad, Good Value. I tried Pei Wei the other night and had the Sesame Chicken, an egg roll (pork), and a side of sweet and sour. The take-out bill came in at around $12 and I ate more than any person should in one sitting, so there is value here.Overall, the Sesame Chicken was okay. It was supposed to be spicy, and a couple of bites were, but mostly it was actually sweet. The egg roll was made well, but I was put off by the texture of the pork nuggets inside. Probably would try a spring roll next time. I’d definitely try it again, but you can usually get tastier (not necessarily better) food from a typical take-out Chinese place for little more than half the price.

Best American Fusion/Chinese. Not a bad place to eat when you are craving for fusion food but don’t want to pay alot like in PF Chang’s or Hunan Manor. I know some of you might say, there’s Red Pearl. Well, personally I would rather go to Pei Wei than PF Changs. Actually for me, PF Chang’s only one level above Red Pearl, who I think is the best place for Dim Sum in Columbia (NOT Maryland as there are countless Dim Sum places in Wheaton, Silversping area), but (Red Pearl) is the worst place for dinner.

Price is right, so is the food. Yes, it’s a chain, yes, a native of Thailand, Japan, China, Vietnam or Korea would scoff at the lack of authenticity, yes, when the place is packed on a Saturday night there’s little charm. You know what? The food is excellent, the portions are large (always leftovers for next day’s lunch), the service is friendly, albeit sometimes rushed, and with a soda you can get out for $10 or so.I’ve eaten where Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese people told me were the most authentic restaurants, and enjoyed every one. But Pei Wei is fun, our kids love it, and when one wants Thai, one wants Korean, two want Chinese, one wants Malaysian and one isn’t sure (there are six in our family) this is the place.Disclaimer: the portions are so large that I’ve never had an appetizer, so I can’t comment on them. (Though the chain, which is owned by P.F. Chang’s, offers that restaurant’s most popular appetizer, minced chicken in lettuce cups, which is quite good.)The drill is simple: order at the counter, get a number (at peak times you’re assigned a table; at other times you can choose your own) and in a few minutes a runner brings your food. Steaming hot food (which my wife loves). The food mostly lives up to the menu descriptions, and the many employees circulating throughout the dining area have been helpful whenever we’ve needed them. The nice part, too, is you pick your dish and method of preparation, then pick your protein. For vegetarians, every entree can be ordered with tofu and vegetables; for others, there’s also beef, chicken and shrimp. We’ve eaten here 3-4 times, and will keep coming back. If you ask the cashier for a carry out menu on your way out, you’ll probably get a coupon (our last one was for a free appetizer). They act like they want you back.
