RGterp. I’ve been here a couple times over the last 3 years. The food quality has gone down hill. One thing has remained consistent though….Bait and switch on the wine list. Be sure to check the year listed vs what they bring out to the table. I send a bottle back every time I go. Last time they did it three times and on the final try I just accepted it because the year they gave me was better than what was on the list.

Third visit. Dinner. We ate Peruvian Chicken, Petit Filet, Mango Shrimp. The cream of mushroom soup was delicious including the cheese garnish; meat filet was fine; creamed spinach was silky and slices of potato and portobello mushroom were cooked correctly. The biggest problem was the Peruvian Chicken. The texture was peculiar. Instead of tender chicken breast meat, it was crunchy as if it were raw. Was it pickled? I didn’t like it. Overall meal was overly salty, more salt than my husband has eaten in a year. Carrot cake dessert, the ice cream with toasted crushed almonds was delicious. The cake was a 2 inch wide, thin roll of dry sponge cake with a large filling of, I guess, cream cheese icing. It bore no resemblance to a slice of moist carrot cake. The clientele was happy and has no idea of good food.
If this place was in DC you wouldn’t be able to get in.. Outstanding restaurant. Very creative tapas, and after many years of patronage I can say that I’ve yet to have a less that spectacular meal here. Try the petit filet, which is served on a slice of potato and a portobello. Another favorite is the salmon medallion, a wonderful blending of flavors and textures. A palm-sized piece of salmon is rolled in cashews and cooked to about medium rare. It’s served with pineapple, zucchini, arugula salad, and orange butter sauce. Heavenly. Sadly they stopped serving one of my personal favorites, albondigas in chile poblano sauce. The lamb chops are my new favorites, and are served with grilled purple potatoes over a red wine reduction.Speaking of wine, should you go be sure to ask the waiter for recommendations. This place has a remarkably deep wine list for a suburban restaurant. Ranazul gives Jaleo and Zaytina real competition.
Al Biegel. Outstanding Restaurant! This is s the best Tapas restaurant in the Columbia/Howard County Area. The substantial and varied tapas menu is consistently delicious. Add in the entertainment and Sangria you will have the ideal setting for a memorable and delightful evening.
Tapas ?. Although out of the way for many, this restaurant occupies the best space in Howard County. The mix of glass, leather and art bring a welcome setting to dining in the area. The bar and lounge welcome visitors to relax and enjoy the food and drink. While the food is reliable, many of the items are a stretch to be called tapas. Don’t be confused, only visit for well made mixed plates. However, the overpriced and overthought winelist is the downfall. Bravo, to the wine directress for expanding the horizons, but choosing wines only because they are unknown is a little pretentious.
Delicious Tapas in Howard County. Great bar, tapas for just outside of Columbia, in Maple Lawn.
