I never go online to brag about a local restaurant, but the service and food I received on Wednesday Night at Pine Lodge Steakhouse was out of this world. From the time we hit the front door to the time we left we were ecstatic with the service we received. It started as we were walking in the front door where we were greeted by a gentleman who it turns out would be our server opened the door, greeted us, and directed us to the hostess stand. The hostess was smiling and friendly and directed us to the saloon area. Once sat our server Derrick came over almost immediately and spent several minutes going over specials and answering questions we had about the menu. My partner and I are not the most easy to please people in the world when it comes to dining and Derrick went above and beyond to try to make our experience a great one. My partner wanted a stuffed flounder Oscar, which isn’t on the menu but the staff went above and beyond to meet our expectations. I had the 16 oz. T-Bone on Derricks recommendation and it was cooked perfectly and had an amazing flavor. I am a diabetic and while the restaurant offers no sugar free caffeine free options Derrick was more than happy to squeeze some lemons and lemon juice into water so I was able to have a lemonade. When it came time for us to order dessert, Derrick remembered I had mentioned earlier that I was a diabetic and placed the sugar glaze that normally came on top on the side without being asked. It’s very rare that we as a mixed race non traditional couple who are admittedly difficult to please go out to eat and not only are made to feel welcome, but have all of the staff that was working from host to manager to bartender show an interest in if we enjoyed our meal or not. We had visited Pine Lodge in the past for special occasions but we will definitely make it a part of our regular dining rotation as long as the service and food remain at this level.
Enjoyably evening with friends. Very good food, excellent service. Sat outside and enjoyed wonderful mountain atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Nice place to eat and meet. Food was good. Atmosphere relaxed and not too loud both upstairs in main restaurant and down in the bar area. Able to carry on conversations without difficulty. Waitress Sam was both efficient and entertaining with our large group..
Nice local restaurant right near the lake. It’s called a steakhouse, but order the crab cakes or chicken. Cream of crab soup is a specialty, so order as an appetizer. We had shrimp pasta and chicken dishes all very good. Heard the steaks were all below par, so skipped them altogether. Marla was our server and she was a hoot. Overall good experience.
Change in Management and quality?. We’ve been here a few times while vacationing in DC. The past visit was probably 3-4 years ago, and all past visits have always been quality both in food and service. Recent visit in July 2014 was very disappointing, after the appetizers, which were all very good. The entrees were all hit and miss. Some had the oak barrel steak (flat iron) that was average. Others ordered the NY Strip (premium steak on the menu) – which were bland and looked like they’d been baked in an oven, no searing. One of the steaks was 25-50% grissle/fat (not the ‘premium, hand trimmed steakhouse cut’ claimed on the menu). The asparagus was borderline unedible – it was soggy, and either was from a can or had sat in a warming pan/bath/steamer for much longer than it should have. The crab cake was good. The waiter was knowledgeable though we had to wait several times on their return (while the restaurant was not at all busy). They were out of most of the red wines on their wine list. At the end of the meal, the two floor managers stopped by to ask how things were – they were asked if the restaurant had made changes in the past few years and the managers said they had significant turnover – previous managers were at other area restaurants, but didn’t ask any further questions. All in all a very disappointing ~ $70 meal.
Good restaurant, bad steakhouse. Great crab soup, it’s worth the trip just for that. The calamari was good too. The steak is terrible! We had a NY Strip and the cut was like something you would expect from the discount bin at the local supermarket. It was not seared at all on either side and we think it was baked in the oven. It was spiced from a shaker and we think it was Mrs. Dash or something similar. Last time we had gone there for a steak was 10 years ago and it was excellent. What happened? The steak was cooked correctly but was not a steak house steak. We get a better steak at Ruby Tuesdays or any of the national chains like that. They charged a premium steak house price for this steak and it was dreadful. The service and all the staff were terrific. It is a very relaxed place with a good atmosphere. However, until we hear that something has changed with the meat, we will not go back.
They have the best crab soup I ever had. It is full of chunks of crab meat and the soup broth is creamy and spiced just right. The meal and service were also excellent.
