Best Crabs Ever!. Went to Al’s in late August, after our previous favorite crab house in Essex was closed on a Monday. Read about the comments and decided to give them a go. Wow! We were so excited about the size of these crabs. Jumbolicious, to say the least. Would go back again!
Best crab cake I have had in a long time. Highly recommended.

Cake and Shrimp combo is great. I love doing the broiled crab cake and the steamed shrimp here. Great tasting and not very expensive.07 Jul, 2011Great place for seafod. Love the cake and shrimp combo. Never let me down yet.
Very nice!. We recently received a gift certificate for Al’s Seafood and went there tonight. We are not from the area and have never heard of it. After reading all of the other the reviews, we were a little scared to go but non theless, it was a free meal. It was very cute, quiet and much nicer than we expected. All of the food was DELICIOUS and our server checked on us often but was not pushy at all. We will definitely go back if we are ever around Essex again because it was a great find!
Not so good crabs. Crabs were NOT GOOD. Not heavy crabs by no means!! Dont suggest getting crabs here
A disaster!. I have to say that this has to be one of the worst foodie experiences I’ve ever had. Went to try the steamed crabs and as we were seated in a dated dining room (with carpet? really, for crab pickin’?) the waitress takes our order for those Bay Beauties. As we setled in for the normal half hour or so wait for our crabs to be steamed, back she comes to the table with a tray of re-heated crabs, in 5 minutes flat. We knew that wasn’t a good sign. But, we were there and they were there (the crabs) so we dug in. Everyone (4 of us) at the table grabbed a crab and tore them open. Oh my goodness, awful! 3 were really bad and 1 was rotten! Smelling of amonia, yuck! We called the waitress over and made our complaints, so she went to get the boss who turned out to be AL himself. We explained the situation to him and he reached across us and picked up the bad crab that we had already been attempting to eat and smelled it. Okay, I’ll give him that, he did have to see if we were lying. But then, remember, we’ve already had our hands and mouths on this crab, he ATE IT! Standing right there over us! GROSS! The whole experience was awful and completely unprofessional on the owners part. They did not make us pay for the crabs, nut we paid for our drinks and left. Went on down the road to Schultz’s and had a GREAT MEAL!
