Big Greek should be, ‘Great’ Big Greek Cafe!. An avid Greek cuisine lover, I am always on the lookout for some really good souvlaki or gyro, Greek salads or other fabulous eats, having tried them from Oregon to Florida! I recently ran across BGC while in the Silver Spring area around lunch time, and boy, am I glad I did! For being a small place, I was impressed with their lively and bright, yet not overwhelming dcor it not louder than your lunch, helping to savor and enjoy the experience. It was nice, neat, convenient, and the counter staff is very friendly and attentive. I was sold BGC the moment I bit into their huge and hard to handle, but incredibly delicious Bifteki Pita with a side of peppers and feta cheese, and a Coke! Anyone who can make something this good, has to make everything just as well. I had the pleasure of briefly meeting the busy Big Greek himself, coming out of the kitchen briefly to say hi and receive my compliment. Anyone who enjoys excellent Greek fare, has to put the Big Greek Caf on their bucket list of eateries. Ill see you as soon as I can get back to BGC. Bon apptit!
Delicious food. I am greek and very picky about where i eat and buy greek food. the big greek cafe has delicious authentic greek food which tastes like the foods your mother or yia yia (grandmother) would make.i love the greek salad and the dressing . they should bottle the dressing and sell it at the groceris stores across the county because its absolutely delicious! but there is one thing they need some improvment on, is the baklava. my advice would be make the baklava look more professtional by cutting the baklava into diamond shapes.
Best gyro in town. This place has the best gyro in town–juicy, good spicing, and generous. The pita is always fresh. Get the platter, because the salad dressing is excellent and the greens are fresh. If you’re a veggie, the trio dip (any three dips) is good too. The people are always friendly, and the place is consistently spotless. Now if they would just open on Sundays…
Bring back the chicken. Everything that I have eaten here is delicious. I have dined at some good Greek restaurants, and I was surprised to find such quality and consistency in a short order shop. Granted, the menu pretty much focuses on salads, gyros, and such (i.e. no yiouvetsi, pastitsio, etc), but what there is fresh and prepeared from high quality produce. The shrimp souvlaki pita is my favorite, but everything I’ve tried is good. Because most customers come for sandwiches and salads, the management removed their roast chicken dinner from the menu. It’s a pity, for it was wonderful. Still, there are plenty of treats here to satisfy one.
Great Food Always…… The food at Big Greek Cafe is wonderful. Everything we have ever tried is delicious from the baked chicken and the roasted Greek potatoes to the scrumptious Pastitsio. The main dishes and desserts are superb. Everyone who comes by Silver Spring and likes Greek Food needs to stop in and eat. They will love the food and the service. Great.
Excellent food!. The best Greek food around town! Try the fries w/feta and spices; gyro; green beans in tomato sauce. Delicious!It is a paper-plate and plasticware place with counter service, though, so, expect informal.
The food here is top-notch. I have eaten at many Greek restaurants inthe area and this is by farbthe best. The Gyro meat is very flavorful and the Tzaziki sauce is awesome. I have also eaten the grilled chicken salad, which was one of the best salads I have ever eaten. The fallafel is flavorful, fluffy, and fresh. It is serves hot and makes an appetizer that you will not forget. The prices are great and one will never leave hungry. This place is a must for anybody who likes Greek food.
