This place is right in downtown Silver Spring near Red Lobster and Masa Hibachi. I ordered Shimp Chow Foon without mushrooms due to an allergy. It came to the table with mushrooms so I had to send it back. When they sent a new order, the noodles were way too chewy, possibly because they rushed the replacement. No plans to go back soon, but if I do, I’ll try the pho next time. dcfud.com

Good pho if you need a quick fix, convenient location. (8/18/2014) Went to Pho Hiep Hoa for a pre-Fillmore meal, location is convenient, there are plenty of restaurants in the are, chains and independents. My usual benchmarks for a Vietnamese place are the pho and summer rolls. Tried the small (good size) #P1 with the weird beefy bits (love ’em), had 4 large nice slices of eye round, a few shreds of brisket, maybe 1 slice of flank, almost non-existent tendon, and a couple of wisps of tripe, plenty of fresh noodles (a little sticky, but not prepped too far in advance). Broth was thin, clear, clean tasting, not much beef flavor, lightly scented with star anise, sufficient salt, oddly sweet. Table salad was an abundance of basil and culantro, AKA Mexican or long coriander (something you don’t often see). Garden Rolls with shrimp were plump, prettily rolled, skin was very chewy (like rubbery chewy), ingredients were fresh, but undressed in anyway, somewhat bland (even for a summer roll), could’ve used some aromatic herbs to brighten it up; accompanying peanut sauce was thick and sweet, not much savory. Service was fine, it’s home-style, not professional, like having your cousins wait on you while your aunt is throwing down the food in the kitchen. Prices are really reasonable, like, cheap! Experience was fine, not great, but def I would frequent here if I worked/lived nearby. FYI, same owner as Indochine in Baltimore.

This place is horrible. I had my young child with me and none of the staff asked or assisted in getting me a high chair. 1. Service was agai n horrible and rude. 2. There was a very large bug in the basil they serve with the pho and when I showed it to the staff they acted is tho I had placed it there and proceeded to bring my check with no apologies. Horrible.

Decent Pho but a little heavy-handed on the star anise. The cha gio had an off taste of excessive garlic; certainly not worth the $3.95 price tag. I noticed that thei banh xeo was ~$10 which seems excessive.

Not Great, but Not Bad. The food at Pho Hiep Hoa is consistent with homemade Vietnamese food. The large menu contains almost all the traditional Vietnamese food that you would expect. Stay away from the non-Vietnamese dishes. The GoodCaramel fish, caramel pork, vermicelli dishes, mi soup, crispy noodle dishes. The MediocrePho is the one meal that all Vietnamese restaurants should do well. It’s hit or miss at Pho Hiep Hoa. If you come later in the night, stay away from the Pho. The pre-prepared broth tends to be sweeter towards the end of the day, likely from the onions being in the broth longer. The Bad1. Spring rolls. They are pre-made and if you get it later in the day, you’ll notice that the rice paper is wilted. 2. Bn B Hu. This is a very hard dish to get right, but Pho Hiep Hoa doesn’t even come close. They should just take it off the menu.
