Soulful yes!. This was a pleasant surprise. The corn bread was a little too sweet for me, and yes very buttery, overall taste good. The blackened tilapia with sauted corn and collard greens were very good, not over seasoned, you could taste other herbs and fresh garlic. Also sample the candied yams and cabbage, also very good. They use smoked turkey in their vegetables. The tilapia was fresh, portion sizes were very good. Would definitely go back. The service was
Overrated. My husband and I heard about this restaurant from some church members, so we decided to go after Sunday service. The staff was very polite, but service was slow. We arrived at 11:22 (I know because I saw the hostess write it down next to our name) and we were seated around 11:30. We did not get a waitress until 11:40. We asked to move from a booth to a table because whenever the customer in the booth opposite of ours would shift their seat it would shift our seat as well. The waitress took our drink order and we ordered our food shortly after. Our food did not come to our table until 12:30. It just so happen the manager stopped by our table as we were getting our food and asked us how everything was. I told him we had to wait an hour to get our food and we hadn’t had the chance to taste anything. The manager politely said he would go and check on that. He came back with the ticket that said our ordered was put in at 12:08 and that the normal wait time was 20-25. He never once apologized for the time it took to get our food, he never once offered any compensation for the wait. Several guest came in after we were seated and they got their food and were ready to leave by the time we got our food. The food was good, but not worth the wait or the price. I can almost guarantee I will not have a sit down meal here again. I would only recommend this restaurant if you have a real hankering for southern food, you order the chicken, you have time to spare or you order it to go.
