A Pikesville name in decay. Horrible meal, nice waitress, matzo ball soup with sour noodles and navy bean soup lukewarm and strange taste. Been visiting Suburban for years and I believe that today there are better options if you want deli style food in Pikesville area . Try Millers or Lenny’s. Visit Suburban at your own risk. In my opinion Suburban House is a deli in decay – not good at all don’t know what happened.
Set up like a ‘Jewish style deli’ although not kosher , this place is well staffed and has a comfortable atmosphere. The mishmah soup was served warm and was big enough to feed two people. The egg salad was served on soft fresh rye bread with lettuce and tomato and was perfectly made, tasty. The coleslaw served was crispy and light, no overpowering of dressing. A return for me.
Coddies. I can’t speak for anything else on the menu, but I had the coddies. They were haimish, they didn’t knock my socks off, but they made me feel like I was in a Baltimore drugstore after school. And once you have one coddie, you have to have another. I ate four. I have no regrets.
Classic comfort food in Pikesville. (12/23/2011) Classic place to go in Pikesville. Got the renowned matzoh ball soup; matzoh ball was larger than a tennis ball (a sinker, but not too dense and seasoned well), soup was savory, yellow with fat, chicken a little chewy, chock full of tender noodles, some carrots and celery. Whitefish salad was smokey, salty, fishy, the best I’ve had; do yourself a favor and get it on a bagel as it was meant to be, regardless of the other bread options. Dining room looked recently redone, but as this was my first time there, can’t compare to previous incarnations. Prices a little steep; but quality was relatively high. Service was prompt, and efficient. Lots of great things to try that you don’t see in most other diners in Baltimore, like Scotch kippers, chopped liver, matzoh brei. Am looking forward to another visit.
Awful!. Was there with family. Omelet was worst my husband had ever had. Son’s brisket was like shoe leather with thick brown gravy. I had corned beef hash with over easy eggs. Eggs were edible. Hash was so greasy could barely think about eating it. Then I tasted it. So fatty, I couldn’t chew it! Dinner ended up being over easy eggs.A very expensive and disappointing dining experience.Server was a bit frazzled. Had to be asked to bring toast after omelet was delivered. Then had to be asked to bring butter and jam. He kept apologizing, but really did nothing to improve his service.Cannot foresee returning there.
A new beginning. We went to the new Suburban House expecting the same ole same ole. I ordered the Rebuen pastrami sandwich and immediately noticed a new difference. The pastrami was smoky, moist and absolutley delicious. Joe (one of the owners) came to my table . We spoke and he told me all the corned beef, and brisket were now being made in house. He also gave me a piece of rainbow cake to try which is being baked in house. Sweet and good. With the pastrami sandwich as good as it was, i cannot wait to come back and try the home cooked brisket and corned beef.I will review that upon my next visit.
