A Nice Family Place. It doesn’t look like much on the outside, but I have eaten at Stables a few times and always had good meals. They have nice portions and friendly service. The only item I do not recommend is the cream of crab soup. It is like trying to eat wet cement. That aside, I have enjoyed their salads, fish, and ribs.

Surprisingly good food!! Recently went with some friends who are local to the area. The restaurant looked more like a a road house/bar than a restaurant but looks can certainly be deceiving. The decor is quite rustic, befitting the name Stables. The dining room encircles the large bar that was quite active. The menu is quite expansive and the Specials are amusingly hand-written (and photocopied) for each table. We decided on a 1/2 chicken, chicken cordon bleu and the crabcake sandwich. Salads arrived quickly and were nice and fresh. The good took a while to arrive but the restaurant was busy and the wait wasn’t terrible. The portions are quite generous to say the least. The 1/2 chicken was enormous, the crabcake sandwich was quite generous but both were dwarfed by the chicken cordon bleu which covered a quite sizable platter along with mushroom sauce. The chicken was reported to be nice and juicy but a bit light on flavor other than hickory smoke. The cordon bleu was also reported to be delicious although too large for 1 (or even 2) diners. The crabcake sandwich was excellent!! The crabcake was packed full of lump crabmeat and virtually no filler. It was lightly seasoned with Old Bay Seasoning but not enough to mask the flavor of the crab. Overall and excellent diner – next time I’m in the area, I’ll petition for a return visit.
