A chinese friend of mine introduced me to this restaurant, and he said their food was close to authentic Chinese/Hunan. have been here 4 times till now, and have gotten different things every time, and I was never disappointed. Lamb skewers were good. Have had several types of fish entrees. Some of the dishes had a good decoration as well. The spicy-ness scale on the menu was fairly appropriate. I mostly picked the ones with 3 chillies. 🙂 foodiemuggles.com

BEWARE OF CRAZY TIP CHARGES…. My wife and I dined at this restaurant a few days and the food was great. Besides having some of the best Chinese food in Maryland, the waiter tried to force us to pay a 20 percent tip when we asked for our check. It was hard to understand him at first, but I soon realized that he was saying that we needed to write 11 dollars in the tip column. First of all, how do you have the nerve to tell someone what he or she has to pay for a tip? Secondly, at least be up front about it, and not try to whisper it to someone as they are writing it on the ticket (check). I should have figured that something was wrong when he stood over my shoulder as I checked the ticket and even when I started to write out the tip. We asked to speak to the manager and I was told BY THE MANAGER that people usually pay around 15-20% in tips once they dine at their restaurant. WHAT??? I can understand if this was written on the menus or placed at the door once you entered the establishment, but waiting until it time to pay for you meal, and then telling some that THEY HAVE TO PAY a 20% tip. My wife and I were excited about eating here, and was even discussing future visits to this location. Never again, this place is ridiculous. Last but not least, my wife and I came in around 2:31PM the day we ate, the waiter waited until 3:00PM to even come to our table. You may ask their logic behind this; they wanted to wait until 3PM, so that they could charge us for dinner prices rather than lunch prices. S-A-D!
Authentic Cuisine – Indifferent Service. Hunan Taste offers real Chinese cuisine – cooked and served as if you were in Taiwan or on the mainland – BUT the service is NOT what should be provided for the price! Our waiter paid very little attention to us, and we often had to appeal to another waiter to get any service. We were not given the appetizers that are supposed to be provided upon sitting down (preserved vegetables and peanuts) until we asked for them. We never received a glass of water. All of the dishes were not served at once, instead, we received a few and had to wait an inordinate time for the rest.This restaurant is pricy but the service is POOR.
Really Great. In this area there is no comparison. The dishes are quite authentic so if you’re used to the run of the mill sticky sweet chinese food, and that’s what you prefer than don’t bother with this place. But if you want fresh, spicy, non greasy and something a little more tantalizing try this place! The owner and staff are very friendly and decor is perfect. Hot & Sour soup is the best Ive ever had – very savory broth with somekind of umami, that missing in other hot and sour soups Ive had eslewhereTheir fish dishes are beyond fresh (with HMart next door) try the hot & spicy fish fillet (flounder) it’s delicious. And if you want to splurge get the Whole fillet of Sole it is enough for 2 or more to share but around $30Tea Tree mushroom casserole is very tasty & interesting dishThere is a pork belly (bacon) dish that is to die for, I forget the name though 8)
Horrible and RUDE Service. The fish that I ordered has a tapeworm in it, and the waiter took the worm away and didn’t do or say anything about it. So I made a complain to the manager and asked him to take the fish away, the manager is soooooo RUDE he never even apologized. He even avoided our eye contact when we walked out of the restaurant, as if he is pissed at us complaining about the tapeworm. REALLY BAD SERVICE!!
Terrible Service. I bought a coupon from http://groupon.com. My friend and I decided to have dinner there tonight and used the coupon. When checkout, the owner refused to let us use the coupon. In addition, he YELLED at me. He would not let me take the left over and told me that he threw it away. I told him I paid for the food, but he said he already threw it away, there was nothing he could do. He even told me that he NEVER lets ppl take their left overs! What a nerve! Dinner took 2 hrs w/ 0 service. Be prepared to be yelled at in this restaurant. Never go there again for sure!
