(6/27/2015) Really great spot for a great burger. Extensive beer selection, some well-curated and interesting choices. Have tried to go to the Federal Hill location a couple of times, unsuccessfully and Federal Hill is always full of douchebags. At least in the OC location you kind of expect douchebags and are pleasantly surprised when it’s just normal tourists (not without their detractors). We went for a late dinner (kitchen closes at midnight on weekends, yay!), and thankfully a table of 12 bros was rowdily just getting up to leave. They had apparently drained all of the Jim Beam in the house. Our server was very attentive (possible since we were the last table seated, he wanted to get us out of there, gave us some story about his dog waiting for him). We had trouble making up our minds with the Build-a-Burger menu, too many choices! Then there’s not wanting to screw up your burger, and you know it will all be your own fault. I ordered a Smoked Angus Burger medium-rare and it came just as a I wanted (even a little under, which is OK by me), on pretzel roll (large, chewy), with brie (fail, my fault, too mild), hot pepper spread (heat on it was no joke), lettuce and raw onion (free stuff), whole grain mustard. Got Onion Rings on the side, shatteringly crisp tempura, crunchy even when cold. I ended up putting my onion rings and my friend’s leftover Maker’s Mark BBQ sauce on it, now THAT was a good burger. Tater Tots, as sides, also very good, but you know it’s just a deep-fried frozen cafeteria tot (not that that’s a bad thing). We moved to the bar after dinner, and they were very attentive (to varying levels of success). Kate was the most successful, one of the other guys tossed our Glenlivet and Guinness that we carried over from the table, perhaps thinking that girls don’t drink scotch or stout, shame on him. Otherwise it was lively, there was a mix of tourists, locals and hospitality guys just off-shift. Def on our list of one of the best places at the beach.
Best burger ever. I did build a burger, had bison, cooked medium, with cheddar cheese, bacon, pineapple, BBQ sauce and chipotle mayo. HEAVEN!
I hate to give bad reviews because I worked in the restaurant industry for so long, but this place was completely unprofessional. I don’t know about the food because my family and I were never served. We walked in 45 min to close. No one acknowledged us except for a few employees who stared at us and snickered amongst themselves. I understand if they were not seating anymore, but they could’ve at least told us that. We could’ve ordered carry out, huge mistake on their part because we order a lot and always tip generously.
Disappointing. I hate giving a really bad review but our experience was terrible. I almost gave it a 1 star but upgraded to 2 because the hostesses and our waiter were wonderful. They were apologetic even though it wasn’t their fault. We went here last yr and were so impressed we decided to go back this year with my parents and our toddler. We ordered the following things:My husband: burger medium wellMe: Bison burger medium wellMy parents: chicken burger The order itself took almost 45 minutes to come out. When it did, my husband’s and my burger were rare and my parents got a hamburger that was rare as well. I was with our toddler in the bathroom when my husband and parents started eating their food. When I got back and started to eat my burger, I realized it was rare. It was brown on the outsides but completely red throughout on the insMy parents showed me theirs and I told them it wasn’t ground chicken. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he would take the wrong orders off the bill. When I got the check, he’d taken off my husband’s order instead of mine. It was a very disappointing visit and I don’t think we’ll go back next time we’re in OC.
Fantastic burgers & sweet potato fries! Staff were very friendly & attentive.
Excellent burgers and a lot of fun. We went to Abbey Burger for the great selection of beers and create-your-own burgers. We were not disappointed. My hickory smoked angus burger with chipotle mayo, onions and avocado was so big, I took it home for another meal. Creating your own burger with choices for meats, toppings, sides, etc. was sort of like taking a test, we joked. Ok, pencils down. Time to order and eat!
Exact same menu & beer selection as in Fed Hill. Beautiful bar & deck but dining room is dated. Carpet is disgusting & dining room is musty. The aura of the Fed Hill location is completely lost as the wait staff just doesn’t understand what they’re representing. They need to import some of the Fed Hill waitstaff to whip these girls into shape. That said, the hostess was super. Lastly, the Fed Hill spot is a home for Arsenal supporters and soccer in general. Despite being a Chelsea supporter, I found the overall neglect of the beautiful game to be disappointing.
