Eaten here many times over 20 years. Small rez only and takes only cash. Wait staff explain the day’s menu by heart and in a way that reminds you of good food writers. You’re more hungry than when you arrived. All choices cater to anyone’s tastes including a few smoked items. Recent trip we enjoyed lobster bisque, clam soup, rockfish, and duck entrees. Excellent wine list.
Great Dinner!. I had heard good things about this quirky little place. So when ‘Man’ announced that he was taking me there for dinner, I was fairly delighted. I had been clued in to the Cash only policy, the eclectic decor, and the local, fresh ingredient approach, as well as hearing that the staff was not your average run of the mill waitron types. Check, Check, Check, and Check. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely hostess, who sat us at the counter/bar. From here we had a bird’s eye view of the dining room and the kitchen. (As a former line cook, I am always impressed when a Chef is confident enough to have customers peering into his real kitchen…not the pristine show kitchens you get in many Open Kitchen restaurants.) Our server, Amy, did not disappoint in the personality department, nor did she disappoint in the service. She was engaging, entertaining, personable and professional. We like to order in dribs and drabs; ordering appetizers and then contemplating our mains, while eating those. No problem for this place. We never felt rushed or like we were being high maintenance. As their menu changes frequently, it would be pointless for me to give you a mouthwatering description of our meals, but I will say if the Salmon Pat is on the menu–get it! The fish is smoked in-house and the dish is absolutely delectable. Prices are commensurate with the quality of the experience. If you are coming from a Metro area, you won’t be too shocked, but for local types it can seem a bit high. I don’t mind paying for quality, and that is what you will experience at Grove Market. Quality. I sure hope ‘Man’ gets a hankering for this place again, and soon!
Nice reasonable wine selection. Smoked fish is nice, but the menu (read aloud by the waiter) resembles food trends from 10 years ago. The dusty old antiques piled everywhere and the plastic chairs could use an update too. That said, the food is fresh, and I’m sure it’s the best you’ll ever have in a trailer park.
