Bloody Mary + BBQ Breakfast = Bangin’ $20 Brunch.Deep Ellum ain’t kidding when it comes to drinks. The menu boasts tons on beers on tap as well as numerous inventive cocktails. Already anticipating my BBQ meal choice, I opted for the Bloody Mary ($9) which came spicy and with a pickled green bean floating around for funsies. Spot-on. My dining companion ordered the Sancho’s Iced Coffee which features tequila and is topped with a heavy dose of whipped cream. Interesting. Glad we tried it. Not gonna happen again though. The BBQ breakfast ($9) is my ideal sleeping situation. Sauced-up, tender pulled pork lying atop a mattress of sweet, moist cornbread and blanketed by a perfectly fried egg sprinkled with pepper and aioli. I wish my bed was made this way every day. The combination is sweet, savory, and genius. I asked for extra BBQ sauce on the side to really drench the cornbread and bring everything together. My friend’s kielbasa breakfast sandwich on an English muffin came with homefries, and the meat was spicy delicious. The portions aren’t crazy huge, which is positive since we would have surely cleaned out plates regardless, considering the high tastiness factor of each. The waitress agreed that we picked the best 2 breakfasts on the menu and mentioned that she was going to eat the kielbasa one after her shift. The space is small, so I would recommend brunchin’ with just a few buddies. The 2 of us waited at the bar for about 10 minutes for a table. Once we were seated the service was fast, helpful (what drink do I order??), and attentive. Although the cocktails will run you around $10 each, the food prices are all reasonable, so even if your brunch is boozy (which it should be), it won’t break the bank.
Looking for a neighborhood brunch place is a must wherever you live and Deep Ellum is it for me. If you are looking for that hangover cure then you need to check it out. The fries alone will put a pep back into your step. firstandwarren.com
Great sausage but everything else blah.
Wow! But then blech.. I love the cocktails and the bartenders are very talented. 2 times we went were great. We had catfish po boy, meatloaf sandwich and a Reuben. The Reuben was. It my favorite-but to be fair that is one of my all time favorite sandwiches and I am particular. The food is all very delicious and freshly made. Worth the price (which actually isn’t that high)It’s great in the summer when the back porch is open.However- the last time we went, it was so loud-like nightclub loud which was really off putting in a small restaurant. The server brought me the wrong drink twice and even though it switched out to the right one I still got charged for the wrong, ore expensive one. He was rushed every time he spoke to us and as a result kept getting things wrong. Incidentally we kept being brought more expensive things. When the bill came we had the splits all written down and the tip being charged to one card. He made a big deal about not being able to charge the tip so we amended to amount to that particular card-he still charged the additional tip difference anyway. We intend to go back once more-I was in love the first two times, but the third was such a bad experience I’ve been hesitant. …we’ll see how it goes.
So dang good!!! Veggie burger was excellent
Was really looking forward to finally getting over here. Great beers, nice cocktail list, good music and terrible service. The food was also between ok to ripoff. We got a cheese plate for an app. Which was listed as market price. Turns out market price was 12 bucks for three slivers of cheese one of which was paper thin. Service was awful. Tried to order entrees for 20 minutes, waiter was too busy chatting to his friends at the next table. He also had to be asked for water and mustard, neither of which ever came. Had to try for ten minutes before he retrieved the check. We won’t be back. I don’t care how good the drinks are, there’s no excuse for awful service when there are only a couple of customers in the place.
Cocktail culture trendleader in Allston. Finally, Allston Rock City has something other than divey Rock Bars and packed 20-something bars in this Destination Spot for high quality, brilliantly made and presented cocktails. The real draw, however, might be the extensive beer selection, 25 of them on draught. Each beer presented in the proper glass, always at the right temperature. Staff is uniformly excellent, friendly, and knowledgable. No attitude; tons accurate knowledge about the products, and increasingly good food. Best bar (in the city)? Certainly in Allston!!
