Asmara is an Eritrean restaurant but because of the shared history its also an Ethiopian restaurant which is definitely the more recognized cuisines in US.The ambiance was beautiful and had various paintings and artifacts from the culture. The food was quite good, on par with several Ethiopian places I have tried. I especially loved the non-veg platter which had a little bit of everything, chicken, lamb, beef and veggies. I really liked the communal eating experience.
I heard so many good things about this place, I had to try it, but I was pretty disappointed. The flavors were more hot in spice temperature than actual flavor. The honey wine was also kind of blah. I didn’t like the taste or texture of the injera either. To me, Lucy’s is the best place to get Ethiopian in Boston. thefabempire.com
Be careful of the spice. I have eaten Ethiopian?Eritrean food in the past, though it is a rare treat because such restaurants are not common in my area. I was looking forward to having a nice meal at the end of a long day. I was quite disappointed as the food is wildly spicy, spicier than any other meals I have had in this cuisine. I would not return again but seek another place in the area.
Delicious food, lots of vegetarian options, very good injera. We’ll be back.
Veggie delight. We shared a honey wine and the vegetarian sampler for two. The wine was definitely homemade, sweet and potent. Vinagrette on the lettuce salad was amazing. The teff bread had a terrific nutty flavor, but I found the spongy texture a little difficult (tastes a little like a sourdough pancake). All the fillings were homemade, fresh and flavorful with a good variety of proteins. Overall, a great plate for two hungry vegetarians.
Love it!. I love this place, partly because the owners are so nice i’ve been going here for years. the food is great and it’s unpretentious. the decor is fine, nothing to wrote home about, but it’s cozy. go with a friend who washes their hands well as you’ll be sharing it all with delish injera!
