The location in the Porter Exchange building is one of the few locations in the US of this Rwandan based company. Their stores are built around the philosophy of producing coffee from crop to cup while sharing our coffee with the world, we are also promoting sustainable practices, economic development, cultural unity, and helping to reshape the global image of Rwanda and its economic development and culture. Working directly with the growers they can pay better since there is no middleman. I stopped by for an Espresso and it was one of the best I have had, rich, dark and seriously flavorful. The sell (expensive) sandwiches and some baked goods but no pastries. The interior is really cool with tons of seating and power outlets. thedailylunch-woburn.blogspot.com
The music is always too loud and often is a very disruptive style. Instead of being focused on their patrons’ comfort and enjoyment, the loud music seems to be solely to satisfy the staff. Most patrons sit at their computers using their own headphones or earplugs to block out the disruptive music. The noise level is so loud it is difficult to carry on a conversation; everybody ends of talking loudly trying to be heard over the loud music. This makes it an even louder atmosphere. The people who come here are clearly looking for a comfortable place to enjoy a coffee, so why does the management create a noisy club atmosphere?
Rwandan Coffee House. This is one of the few US-based locations of a Rwandan coffee house chain, emphasizing full transparency of the entire coffee process, from grower to consumer, a totally carbon-neutral business approach, and full equity for all growers. In addition to all those laudable progressive ideals, they serve up some wonderful coffee and tea drinks, and incredible house made pastries in a warm African-inspired hipster-free space with tons of places to sit and relax. Service was friendly – eye contact and smiles instead of eye rolling and sighs.
