One star because the food was decent, that’s it!Worst service ever, because my server had the audacity to ask for more tip after the bad service. I have had better middle-eastern food a lot of times, so I wouldn’t go much into it. Back to the service, while placing the order I asked my server to replace the green salad ( that comes with the kebab sandwich) with a tahini dip. She bluntly said no that’s not possible! I don’t understand how difficult is that, she could have suggested that you can take the dip on the side which she didn’t. So, I asked her can you give that as a side, to that she thankfully said yes! Then I had few questions about my coffee, and again she replied what I asked (too uptight about it) without any suggestion. The best part was after we paid our bill. She called us out after we left and had a very rude discussion with us about the tip we left! Like, really?! We left 10% to convey our displeasure and she asked for a minimum $7 as if that’s the law! Who does that, so rude and distasteful! chasing-miles.com
The Turkish coffee is NOT good, not at all like what we have in Turkey. Other than that, I’d give this place two thumbs up. Appetizer plate is delish and you can play backgammon on the small terrace outside. krismlars.com

I love backgammon. What I like about this place is the little terrace, very nice to sit there in summer; the food is nothing special, but good, kind of oriental. My favorite is to sit on the terrace, play backgammon while drinking tea or a fresh beer, with the nice view on Brattle street (with the sunset lightning the roofs it’s even more romantic)…
Funky. Cafe algiers was the cafe in harvard square before there were cafes in harvard square. the fact it is still here tells you enough that they’re the real thing (i once saw them outside delivering a whole dead pig to the kitchen!) but you’ll love the atmosphere and upstairs decor. just try not to look in any of the staff areas, you just might see a poster of khomeini or something, which is why i stopped going there years ago.
