Not Impressed. I wanted to like this place but a lot of disappointments. Service is not up to standards of a restaurant of this pricing. Our waiter wasn’t very warm or even seemed to really care whether we were enjoying our restaurant experience. Cleared the table but left left the table with food on it and then put our desert menus on top of the dirty table. The food had a lot of attention and care but over all I felt that many of the dishes had too many flavors going on. My main dish was called Chinese Box, I envisioned something like a Bento Box. But what I got was an Chinese/American ‘to go’ box upside down on a plate. The waiter lifted the box to reveal a bunch of ingredients all mixed (layered) together which resembled more of a fried rice kind of mishmash after you take your left over home from a restaurant and pour it on a plate to try and reheat it. This is certainly not worth the $26.00 price. The restaurant was labeled romantic but the night we attended there weren’t any tables for two that were intimate. We were placed in front of the open kitchen with cooks shouting out orders. I don’t mind open kitchens and my wife and I enjoy each others company. But I had called ahead requested a special intimate table to celebrate our anniversary, I should have been advised that the restaurant dosen’t have that kind of table so that I would have choice to make a reservation or look else where. Surprised by the great reviews, perhaps the restaurant used to be better. But I cant recommend Ovoo.
Loved the food, fish, beef and chocolate!. Ate there tonight. Very cold in Boston. Felt shivery going in to the restaurant but was quite warm leaving it, in part, because of the wonderful food. Very good salad with confit of duck, lovely beef tenderloin with soft whipped potatoes, very flavorful squash soup with apples, crisp potsticker and a very good striped bass (all shared with 4 people). Ended, uncharacteristically with dessert , apple crisp, chocolate banana bread pudding and a chocolate souffle in a pool of melted marshmellow. Fresh, inventive and fun (and friendly)
Sat at Bar, had a gret meal. So I had to eat before sleep study at Youville Hospital and was vectored into the place by a freind on the phone.WOW.. the place usually fills by 730. The menu is awe inspiring and then when you acually the app soup main dish or desert , it is so creative you laugh. Then you taste ,I actually freaked out with the laveder and honey creme brulle because the first bite reminded me of a field we use to hang out in as a teen.Bang ,done, the best … I finished my imperial IPA from cambridge and was very succesful at my sleep test
Fun fun fun. It’s a really fun place with aloof decor given the neighborhood, but the friendliest staff ever. the food presentation is amazing (once i ordered a chinese dish that came looking as if it had been spilled out of a takeout box), yet the palette isn’t zesty enough for me. still i love this place.
