  Forage is an exciting concept that touts hyper seasonal farm to table ingredients in an intimate setting situated in a basement of a Cambridge condo complex. I had heard rave reviews and was beyond excited to try their four course tasting menu, but was left woefully disappointed. I want to preface this by saying that space was beautifully decorated and the service was lovely. Our waitress was incredibly educated on the menu and was able to answer a wealth of questions about the menu items. As a whole, the food managed to be bland and overly salted at other times. I started with a salad that I could have made myself and was sized for Keebler elf. The potted chicken was unappetizing and lacked any flavor. It also had a completely unappetizing presentation in a cat food can and consistency of meat jell-o. I’ve had potted chicken in the pastseveral times and I have enjoyed it,so it was the preparation in this case and the complete andutter lack of seasoning that killed it. The Pollack, which served as he mainwas served on a bed of something that resembled lumpy oatmeal and was completely flavorless. I felt that the option offered to vegetarians, an Indian dish was something that you could find at a buffet style Indian restaurant and was under flavored as well. It also came across as an afterthought. I will commend the chef for attempting to marry interesting flavors, such as spruce and pine in a desert, but overall the execution is completely lacking. I will admit, that their roast chicken looked exceptional and smelled delicious. When you go home hungry and the highlight of the meal happens to have been the bread, you know that it’s a real issue.
