Jasper Whites – Alewife. Hmmm. Is all I can say. The prices are MUCH higher than previously. $ 20 for Fish and Chips? The spicey Bermuda fish chowder with Rum was delicious. A cup is $ 5.95. That price is competitive I think. The white sauce garlic muscle appetizer was good, though the mussel flavor was milder than expected. Price $ 15 to me is high for an appetizer. I wonder if the price hike is due to the current high price of white fish (Scrod/Cod) since two things I chose had white fish in them. The lobster pot stickers with soy and ginger was delicious, though (don’t remember exact price) the price was high to me for an appetizer. The board specials weren’t priced as specials either. I was there in April and October 2013 and I swear the prices and choices were different.

Fun but Pricey. Summer Shack is a laid back restaurant that tries to be what its name says. It has the atmosphere of a summer shack on the shore. Unlike summer shack with cheap eats, I found the dinners to be pricey. I understand and am willing to pay for good fish dinners, lobster, shrimp, etc. but to charge $20 for a haddock dinner is pricey in my opinion. Would I return, maybe, but I would look for a more reasonably priced seafood restaurant if I were visiting in the future.

Mixed Results. Our dinner here last night was pretty good overall – I ordered their famous pan roasted lobster — split in half and bathed in a luscious buttery sauce, delicious knuckle and tail meat but claws were overdone. The accompanying corn on the cob was sweet and fresh, and a side dish of toasted brown bread (a must for a New England seafood dinner) was superb, thick and hearty buttered and toasted slabs of real brown bread. Our waitress was young, but attentive and quick, promptly refilling our drinks and answering all of our questions. The only real disappointment of the meal was the gazpacho starter — flat, watery, tasteless. Its true that gazpacho isn’t really a ‘new england seafood specialty’ like chowder or bisque, but if they are going to offer it on the menu, they should probably get the recipe from Whole Foods deli department (those folks do it right!).One special touch which resonated nicely – the bottles of ketchup on all the tables contain REAL ketchup, not high-fructose-corn-syrup poison. What a nice surprise.

What a disappointment!. Had a wonderful meal here when the place first opened, so returned during Restaurant Week. Ugh–overly breaded calamari, tasteless clams, cold fries, bland tuna burger, greasy fried fish, and inedible coleslaw. Mexican chocolate torte was good, but I went for the seafood…

Summer Shack near Alwife. Fast and Friendly service; just a bit expensive but still a great place for a great meal
