This place is the jam. Fried oysters, great burgers, excellent liquors and friendly folks. A beer selection bigger than most in Boston. When I visit, I go here.

Really Cool. This is a great place… great food, about 50 beers on tap… sexy staff… warm neighborhood pub atmosphere. I had the cheese platter and scallops cooked to perfection – about as good as I’ve had anywhere in the country. Went back a second night!

Fantastic Neighborhood Place. A lot of the other reviews have focused on the impressive and diverse beer selection, so I was a little anxious the food would be given short-shrift at this place, which looks like a simple, comfortable bar when you first walk in. My concern only deepened when I opened the menu and found some very ambitious appetizers and entrees listed — many swanky 5 star kitchens in Boston would have a hard time delivering on this promise. But my concerns evaporated when our first course was delivered — a perfectly composed platter of Blue Point oysters, perfectly shucked and nestled on a bed of chipped ice and served alongside a tart mignonette sauce and cocktail sauce. I accompanied this course with the tasty, tender, beef skewers since my guest wasn’t too keen on raw shellfish. Confident now that they knew what they were doing, I went ahead and ordered the BBQ Sweetbreads, a massive portion of the most tender and chewy glands I’ve ever tasted, served in a sweet and spicy sauce. Staying with the appetizer theme, I got the chicken lollipops which were definitely fun to eat, especially crunching through the crispy skin to the tender dark meat inside. This is like the ultimate bar food for adults.Rounding out our tour of the appetizer section was a beautifully presented platter of tuna sashimi, luscious slabs of dark red raw tuna flecked with sesame seeds and wasabi. There is no doubt the beer selection is incredible – fans of Sunset Grill who are now grown up and want more than nachos should come here. If I lived in the neighborhood, this place would be on the weekly rotation.UPDATE: a recent visit (11/10/2011) revealed a potentially fatal flaw. They apparently think it is appropriate to blast hardcore rap music — measured at 95-105 dB on my sound meter. This requires you to literally scream at your dining and drinking buddies in order to be heard, which is what everyone was doing.

Amazing, Austere, Alluring. On our recent overnight stay Cambridge, this was our last stop before hitting 93 South and heading home the next day. Dimly lit with a red glow hitting the outside brick, we knew we had found Lord Hobo even though there wasn’t much of a sign. Greeted by a host holding back some very lush red velvet draperies, we entered into the very austere red and black dining room and took our seats at a minimalist raised table. Aside from the fact that we had read in ‘The Dig’ earlier that day that there was a Stone beer tasting going on (20 Different kinds on draught!), it looked like we were about to have a pretty amazing experience here. And we did. We decided on the charcuterie plate of the night, which consisted of foie gras, pheasant terrine, head cheese, and chicken liver pate, some tasty baguette, and a single cornichon (we were under the impression there would be more pickles….), all for only $10! Because we were still hungry we also got an order of mussels with fries (which came with a good aioli instead of ketchup) which were good and buttery, but not the best I’ve had. The new Stone varieties we tried were awesome, as expected.. I hadn’t realized there were so many variations of the Arrogant Bastard out there! One I was particularly happy with was the ‘Levitation Ale’ which was pleasantly hoppy and aromatic, but with a wimpy abv. of 4.4%..I usually prefer in the 7% range!! Over all, a great place… I wish I lived in Cambridge!!!http://www.stonebrew.com/home.asp#http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/31545
