A bucket of lonestars, please… Tupelo is a great place for every occasion. We never fail to impress out-of-towners with a meal here. The atmosphere is warm, quirky, and unpretentious. Dine here a few times, and the friendly staff will make you feel like a regular (which you’ll probably end up being). The menu changes seasonally, but generally includes many perfected Southern fan favorites. Among the best I’ve tried is the massive meatloaf, the pimento cheese, the frito pie, and the turkey meatballs. The rotating specials are also a special treat; although asian style pork belly with peanut slaw may not appear to be congruent with the rest of the restaurant’s fare, it was one of the best dishes I’ve eaten all year. Cheap date night is far and away the most satisfying way to navigate Tupelo’s generous portions. For 25 bucks, two can split fried grits, a gumbo, and a giant, delicious entree. Polish it all off with a slice of Petsi’s pecan pie with some bourbon ice cream while sipping a Hound dog- the King would definitely approve.

Not even close. I’m a Louisianian. I have tried Tupelo twice now, once with a a fellow Louisianian, and we both agree that while the beer selection is a great representation of La, the food is not. The search for a taste of home continues.

Soothing and Souther. First of all, their sweet tea is second only to mine. And maybe Paula Deen’s. They experiment with grits and thangs, and have some really inventive offerings, while remaining true to southern staples like chicken and waffles and po’ boys.

Tupelo’s Sorry I have to Disagree. I had a bowl of grits wiht some pulled barbeque chicken and the turkey meatballs as a appetizer. I was less than impressed. My son had the bowl of grits with some barbecue beef. He said the dish was O.K. My other son had the chicken and waffles and only ate half. He didn’t like either. We also had three very small glasses of juice(2.50 per glass outrageous) and they had the chocolate cake for desert. Neither finished the cake (didn’t like it). The total price for this disaster was 81.00 dollars. I’m from the south and southern cooking this is not.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.. First, my credentials. I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. I grew up down the street from Mrs. Wilkes boarding house restaurant – best Southern food on the planet, hands-down.Do yourself a favor and skip this restaurant. These are awful misrepresentations of southern cuisine. My food was horribly over-salted, mis-cooked, and generally inedible. My girlfriend’s dish was equally bad (and she grew up in the DC area with a mom from south of the mason-dixon line so she knows what southern food should taste like too). A much better option for the Boston area would be the (nearby) Hungry Mother. They do some really nice interpretations of dishes such as shrimp and grits – and they do it right.

We loved it! The fried grits stole my Husband’s heart. Our waitress was amazing! If you can go get there SOON!

Who’d expect to find good Southern style comfort food in the middle of Cambridge? My red wine braised beef brisket with fresh ground horseradish was fork tender and was accompanied by some very good collard greens and buttery mashed potato. My wife enjoyed the catfish and cheesy grits. Great food and generous portions for the money. A definite win in my book.
