Pho Hoa located in the Field’s Corner section of Dorchester was recommended highly by my sister who frequents this restaurant regularly with her husband. Together we had dinner there last evening and my experience was positive. Pho Hoa’s menu is extensive and authentic. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The food is flavorful and service is excellent.
Less crowded, more Americanized.. It’s all right. The food’s not all that authentic compared to the Pho Le restaurant next door — the Pho Dac Biet tastes distinctly fat-heavy in its meat and the broth isn’t all too flavorful, and the spring rolls are a bit unsatisfactory and overly crispy. Service is consistently good, though, and it’s a great restaurant if you’re looking for some good-but-not-great Vietnamese food.
I’ve never been to Vietnam, but I took it as a good sign that everyone around me was speaking Vietnamese and I was the only light-skinned guy in the place. I haven’t tried much of the menu, but everything I’ve had has been good. The pho is so good I have a difficult time ordering anything else. The pho has excellent flavor. The noodles are the perfect consistency. The vegetables are fresh. The meats are good. I’d ordinarily scoff at the idea of filling up on soup, but so much goes into a bowl of this stuff that it’s impossible to finish a large one.
