Great Mexican Fare in Falmouth – August 2017Anejo has been a favourite of ours in all of our visits to Falmouth. Our most recent trip in August did not disappoint. We arrived towards the end of the lunch service, the staff were all friendly and attentive. Whilst the big windows were open, we opened for a seat by the window where it was cool but you still had that outdoor feel.A real winner on every trip is the taco selection, these can come as a trio of mixed tacos and all were sublime in flavour. Mixed with a frozen margarita it is a win!In terms of other menu choices, the portion sizes are what you would expect from such an establishment, if you go for lunch, you will not need dinner that is for sure.If you want to add something unique to your dining experience, go for the table side guacamole!
This as close to authentic Mexican we have found on Cape Cod. We’re from Austin and are very picky. Strong and fresh margaritas, awesome enchiladas, street corn, crusted cod. They have never disappointed. Yes. In the summer you’ll wait a long time on the crowded outdoor patio but didn’t I mention the ‘Rita’s?
I like it but the wait is daunting. Typical for an hour+. On the plus side they are accommodating and have excellent service. Good food and the prices are reasonable for drinks and food.
Disappointing. We had passed this restaurant on Saturday and were interested, but the hour wait for a table was too much. Since we were staying for the week, we decided to visit during the week. On Tuesday, we were able to get a seat with 20-30 minutes. However, the experience was disappointing.Because I like Mexican food, I like to try different places, but understand that Mexican restaurants in non-traditional areas can be dicey at best. We were seated promptly, but it took our server 15 minutes to introduce herself and to get our drink order. The drinks came relatively quickly although the bar was busy. Once we got our drinks, our server, named Lauren, apologized as this was her second day and proceeded to take our appetizer and dinner order. When I asked for the Pato con Mol Poblano she first took the order. However, when my wife said, oh you are ordering the duck, the waitress told us they were out of the duck. Wouldn’t you think that the servers should know the Spanish names of the dishes on the menu? In any case, she said the chicken was just as good so I ordered it instead. My fellow diners ordered the carn asada, a chicken burrito and the chil relleno.Again the appetizer took a long time to arrive and in the meantime I noticed that my beer glass had a sharp chip in it. When our appetizer arrived, I mentioned this to the server and asked for a replacement beer and glass. Not only did I not get a glass replaced but she forgot serving plates for us and we needed to ask another server for the plates. The queso fundido again was excellent. We soon got our entres. My chicken was overcooked and dry. My wife’s chile relleno was good but the rice was greasy and dry and the carn asada was cut wrong so the meat was tough and chewy, although spiced appropriately. The rice that accompanied the asada was also greasy and a little crunchy. We finished our meal, and I decided to not make a stink about the disappointing food. However, once we had paid the bill, I had to make a quick pit stop before leaving. I heard our server complaining about the quite adequate 20% tip we gave her. I would recommend going here to drink, but I would steer away from eating at this establishment as the food and the service was disappointing and sub-par.
Upscale & good!. Very crowded, fun, well managed restaurant. Looks out of place in Falmouth because it’s too cool. Food was great! Drinks okay! Service perfect!
The high prices on the menu for mexican food was a little worrisome, but the food is definitely worth it, great service too
Finally. Falmouth has been waiting for a Mexican restaurant for some time and this one has promise. Since the last attempt was a place that put Boston Baked Beans in their burrittos – Anejo has a lot of leeway. The chips & salsa, margeritas, pork shank, shrimp quesadilla and skirt steak are all good, but the ceviche and the chile rellenos were a dissapointment. Aside from the food it’s laid out well with plenty of booths, some hip lighting and the music is hit or miss. But so far they are such a hit you have to get there early. They only take reservations for 8 – which is annoying but maybe they’ll ease up during the winter. Since Anejo poses a pronunciation problem for non-spanish speakers – it’s affectionately known by locals as Annie Jo’s. Not bad.
